Oh, come on. He wasn’t presenting a joke, people. He was presenting the fact that the joke is stupid. And the stupidity of the joke made him laugh.
If I tell you that I think it’s funny how many people think sex is sacred, do you make fun of me for not telling a good joke?
It’s sort of like Art Buchwald’s suggestion for the McGovern campaign when the news about Eagleton came out. He said they should have made an ad saying:

Democrats tend to push those of us who are truly crazy out of the party and into the Greens.
Not so much push as ignore them until they go away, which they usually do.
