The thing is, “rest of the world” is just not a thing that much conservative media gives much time to, apart from in terms of conflicts / threats.

It never fails to astonish me how many right wing talking points are demolished by just remembering that the rest of the world exists. “All gun control does is stop law-abiding people having guns”. “Universal healthcare will bankrupt the state”. “The crime problem is because of a lack of religiosity”. And on and on.

I doubt that many FOX viewers will have stopped to realize that “the R&D argument” means subsidizing the rest of the world, even if it were true. And many would be surprised to learn how US pharma fees compare to other countries (and of course it would be “fake news”).

Yeah thats been my concern for a while. Theyre not forcing pharma to negotiate prices, theyre just making insurance pay the overpriced costs instead of consumers.

Also the government has outlawed international competition on drug prices. Nobody would buy insulin for $500 in america if you could safely and legally import it on both the consumer and provider side for $20. But they made that illegal.

Nothing is stopping blue states from negotiating prices. California has more people and more wealth than most other western nations with UHC.

California said theyd make their own insulin but i dont know how much theyll charge. It shouldnt have taken this long for a state to do that.
