Or, who do you really wish doesn’t get the nomination? I really don’t want Lieberman to get it, for reasons **Eve** originally described in this BBQ [thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36293&highlight=Lieberman) . Help me choose an alternative. Who do you like and why? ---

I’ve got a radical idea…instead of Democrats _hoping and predicting_, how about Democrats _voting_. Like, in primaries or something? I hate this constant speculation (both Democrat and Republican, but a sitting president will always get his party’s nomination). It serves no one but the party power brokers to know who’s got good word-of-mouth before the first ballot is cast. ---

The “republocratic” senator from Arizona would be pretty cool. \* Colin Powell would be great. Hillary Clinton would be most excellent for the sole reason of watching the knee jerk ditto-head types grinding their teeth in furious anger. Heh heh heh. John McCain is still my pick. I don’t agree with him on some large issues, but I respect him. More then I can say for 90% of the other politicians. - Political Disclosure-- I am more an independent then Democrat, truth be told, as both parties have major flaws and morons at the top. ---

Let’s see: not Daschle, not Gephardt, not Leiberman. John McCain becoming a Dem and seeking the 2004 nomination is my political wet dream, but I don’t think it’s gonna happen. I don’t know enough about Kerry, Edwards, or Dean to say one way or the other. ---

IMHO this presidential election is going to be some very tough sledding for the dems. The best available speculation of who’s going to run reminds me of “The Seven Dwarves” characterisation of the '80(?) primaries. Strategically, I believe the democrats have to win their traditional strongholds as well as the south to win the White House. But who can do it? ---

Dean. He’s a great guy, and signed the Civil Union bill into VT law. He took a lot of flak from conservatives, but he still managed to win the next election cause he’s just so damn great. Of course, if you want a more conservative candidate, he might not be the choice for you. ---

I believe the unknown the Democrats ended up nominating that year was a guy named Clinton. I haven’t look at the other guys yet, but I’ve been looking at [Howard Dean’s website](http://www.deanforamerica.com). I don’t think he’ll do well in the South or even here in Missouri, but I like what I see so far. ---

I believe that Bush’s apparent popularity right now could be a good thing for the Democrats. A lot of the party leadership is going to step aside, not wanting to risk their positions.
