I find it odd that Dennis Miller always liked to skewer the right-wing Bible belt mentality and now he seems to be a champion for the conservative cause. But hey, one thing that REALLY sticks in my craw is the fact that he can afford the luxury of being a 150% super-patriot because there’s no draft !!! YAY another damned chicken-hawk. Plus, I think he has NO military service whatsoever, and he was born in late 1953 meaning he would have been of draft age about 2 months before 1) the Vietnam War ended and 2) the draft ended. I wonder what his politics would be like if he had been sent to Vietnam and had to fight in that shit-hole while the elite right-wing types took a pass? Yep, another damned “armchair patriot, summer soldier, sunshine patriot, but don’t send ME to do the fighting citizen”. ---

I don’t know how debateable it is but Dennis Miller is definitely a prick. He really hasn’t been funny since he left SNL, his HBO show was just a lot of snide, liberal-bashing crap and he sucked _hard_ on Monday Night Football. His career is basically over now so I guess he’s trying to get some free pub. He supported Ross Perot too, so that tells you what a political genius he is. ---

Gee I posted after just seeing the starting thread. I thought the debate was how EASY it is to be super-patriotic when you don’t have to take any chances, make any sacrifices, do any fighting, etc. I think that is a GREAT topic for Americans to think about during this Independence Day. ---

This is rich. One celebrity tries to sneak away from the herd. Suddenly we should _not_ care what they think. 😕 Thank goodness I can continue to ignore Tim, Alec, and Bar without opprobrium. If I must sacrifice Dennis Miller to rid myself of Barbara Streisand, hand me the stone knife and step back. ---

I think the Pubbies have taken a viper to their ice-cold bosom. I just hear a line attributed to him, such that since GeeDubya is so dim, he surrounds himself with intelligence like the hole surrounds itself with doughnut. Look, the Right needs some sort of jester, and toot fuckin’ sweet! Who have they got? _Mallard Fillmore_? P.J. O’Rourke ain’t too bad, I always read his stuff, but how many times is he going to tell me he used to be a hippy but now he has a drinking problem. That ain’t progress, Peej. Ann (Anne of Green Goebbels) Coulter is funny as hell, but she doesn’t seem to realize it. At any rate, lets be generous. Ol’ Dennis has pretty much shot is wad as a giggle-flinger. I like Miller. He’s a comedian, so you have to realize that he’s going to exaperate everything. If that surprises you, and you can’t take it, you need to loosen up more than a bit. I also like Bill Maher (on the other end of the specturm). In fact, I would **love** to see a news analysis program like Firing Line hosted by those two guys. They wouldn’t let any guest BS his way through an argument, and they’d remind us all not to take ourselves too seriously. Both of these guys are smart, quick, and witty. Form the left, I’m Bill Maher. And from the right, I’m Dennis Miller. ---

Of COURSE Dennis Miller is an asshole! He disagrees with you! The modus operandi of the left is to HATE everyone who doesn’t agree with them. All us right-wing types are monsters who want to enslave women, eat the poor, and enslave the minorities, after all. But for comedians we do have: Dennis Miller Larry Miller P.J O’Rourke Dave Barry Norm Macdonald Drew Carey And plenty of others. Who’s the left got? Michael Moore and Al Franken? Both of them stopped being funny about five years ago. George Carlin? He’s descended into self-parody. ---
