If the film was a Merchant Ivory film, the part of Mary Kelly would be played by Emily Watson. However, this is a Hollywood production, so a beautiful person MUST be cast in the role.

In related news: Jerry Bruckheimer has cast Heather Locklear to star as the Elephant Woman in the 100 million dollar remake of Elephant Man as reimagined by Ang Lee.
