Leslie Fish did a number of songs where she had arrangements for various Kipling poems. These really spoke to me. _[The Undertaker’s Horse](http://www.readbookonline.net/readOnLine/2741/)_ was a good one, but really, it was the _[Birds of Prey March](http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/birds-of-prey-march/)_ that I find fits best - it’s an utterly bleak, hopeless poem, set to a cheery marching tune. Great exercise song, though. ---

It used to be Brain Damage/Eclipse but then I was brain damaged and almost had a permanent eclipse. So now I stick with Gloomy Sunday and when I want to liven things up I gather round my cockatiels and sing Der Fuerher’s Face. ---

“Gone Away” - from the “Pickin’ On Bluegrass” Album. and “She’s Gone” by Black Sabbath from “Technical Ecstasy”. As soon as I hear those strings, the hair stands up on the back of my neck and it brings tears to my eyes every single time. It’s like picking at a wound for me, I have to be careful when I play it, sometimes I can listen to it and I’ll be fine. Other days…not so fine and I’ll think “What the hell did you do that for?”. (Luckily it’s followed by “Dirty Women” on the album, and that always lifts my spirits for some reason!) ---

To me the best thing to get me out of a funk is The Blues. Play it loud and hope no one can hear you singing. Blues Brothers version of Shotgun Blues It’s hard to gamble When you lose every bet Hard to save money When you’re 20 years in debt The blues is fallin, fallin down on me like rain I’m gonna take a shotgun and disconnect my brain Always has the opposite effect on me than the lyrics would suggest. ---
