Well, Dutch sentence structure is a lot more similar to English than German sentence structure is, making it easier to get a contextual meaning out of a Dutch sentence. Does that make sense? ---

Heh, thanks **Coldfire**. Yes, I asked for the correction… The _komen_ (kommen?) makes sense, it´s the same in German, actually. _Als_ je wil, not _om_? Am I mixing languages here? My ex-boyfriend lived in NL for a while (he wasn´t Dutch, though), so I spent some time there, and I tend to pick up languages quickly. Most of it is guesswork, though, so I´m better in a conversation than when I write it. And reading is always easiest… And Rudi Carrell sucks, as does Linda van de Mol or whatever she´s called, it´s just the accent… though with those two, I have to close my eyes to enjoy it 😉 ---

Oh **Coldfire** , are you in for a joint effort to illustrate **capybara** by translating that sentence of yours about contextual meaning in the most heavy, scientific polysillabic German the “Schwere Worterbuch” enables us ? 😉 I’ll be off now thinking of a way to stretch the word “sentence structure” into at least four sentences with at least 20 nouns with a capital N between them. PS It fits the theory exactly that you, native Dutchman, would not like Rudi Carell. I bet UK-MTV wachters actually _enjoyed_ Katja Schuurmans English… ---

Universe, _als_ can mean both “if” (if you would like, “als je wil”) and “as” (he is as smart as I). In German, it would be _grosser als_, which in Dutch would be _groter dan_. Maybe that’s where part of the confusion lies: superlatives are different in German. And it’s Linda de Mol, who is indeed just as disgusting as Rudi Carell. 🙂 **Maastricht** , what nationality are you, then? Anyways, I cringe at the way most Dutchmen speak English, with their thick accents. Remember PM Ruud Lubbers? Ye GADS, fingernails on a chalkboard! I’m all for confusing **capybara** some more, though. 😉 Yo, **capybara**? Hoe goed is je Nederlands nu echt? Kun je al een beetje schelden? Een snelle les: mix zo veel mogelijk ziektes en sociaal ongewilde personen in een woord. Een voorbeeld: kankertyfusteringhoer. 😃 ---

Obwohl ich Deutscher bin und auch in Deutschland lebe, fällt es mir irgendwie schwer, etwas auf Deutsch zu formulieren, dass ich hier schreiben kann. Das muss daran liegen, dass mein Gehirn komplett auf Englisch umschaltet, wenn ich ins Internet gehe. Es gibt einfach keine interessanten deutschen Seiten im Netz. Geht das Euch anderen, für die Englisch nicht die Muttersprache ist, ähnlich? ---

Ja, ein Bisschen schon. Weil es einige interessante Seiten im Hollaendisch gibt, ist es meistens alles Englisch was ich lese. Oh, okay, **Coldfire** , seems I had a slight mixup with Swedish there (regarding that “om”). Those two languages seem to occupy the same slot in my brain, and Swedish is stronger… wat kan je doe 😉 (okay, so I´m sure that´s not a Dutch idiom… but it looks cool 😉 ) on preview… I think I´ll leave those grammar errors out for mkl12 to kill… ---

Ich finde das, wenn mann ein anderes Sprach gut lernen mochten, muss man in der Sprache denken. Wenn man in der Sprache traumen kann, kann man die Sprach sprechen 🙂 ---

Ich wollte eigentlich niemanden korrigieren, aber wenn **Coldfire** persönlich darum bittet, kann ich natürlich nicht nein sagen. 😉 Im ersten Satz muss es “auf Holländisch” heißen. Ich vertehe nicht ganz, was dieser Satz bedeuten soll. Du meinst entweder “There are some interesting sites in Dutch but most of what I read is in English” oder “Most of what I read is in English because there are few interesting sites in dutch”. Im ersten Fall solltest Du “obwohl” statt “weil” schreiben, im zweiten Fall “wenige” statt “einige”. Im zweiten Satz sollte “du” statt “dich” stehen, und “zu meiner eigenen Sprache” statt “nach mein eigener Sprache”. Ansonsten ist Dein Deutsch wirklich gut, ich wünschte, ich könnte so gut Hölländisch. Leider kann ich es nur ein bißchen lesen und kein Wort schreiben oder sprechen. And please, could someone correct my English, I know it sucks! ---

And the language is truly something else, especially interesting when you speak some Dutch already. I’d recommend it. ---

Oooh…ein deutscher thread und ich bin so spät dran… Ich muss sagen, Eure Deutschkenntnisse sind wirklich ganz gut! Lustig finde ich, dass ich im Geiste höre, wie sich das anhört, was ihr sagt (ich kenne einige englischsprachige Leute, die gut Deutsch können und die machen ähnliche Fehler). Ausserdem ist es immer wieder schön, festzustellen, dass man immerhin weiss, was die Holländer so meinen, wenn sie es schreiben 😃 Es ist jetzt schwierig, einzelne Fehler zu korrigieren, nachdem schon so viele posts vergangen sind, aber ich sehe, da waren einige andere deutsche Doper schon dran. Ich helfe natürlich gern weiter, wenn noch Bedarf besteht.
