Being a poetic sort myself, I would have given her the benefit of the doubt in this respect at first, until it came to light that she had been committed to a mental hospital. That seems like an extreme reaction for spouting poetical language. The people who committed her must have had a compelling reason to believe that she was completely irrational.
IMO, This is actually worse than her delusional thinking, and maybe one of the reasons why she’s hanging on unreasonably without confronting the suffering her child maybe going through.
The sort of birth defect this child has, it’s rather amazing he was alive at birth.
What has gone wrong here is a genetic defect that affect growth and development of just about everything in the body. There’s no fixing this. Is the kid suffering? Hard to say… respiratory distress isn’t fun, it’s pretty awful but it’s not the most agonizing state possible. His birth defect will have also messed up his brain development in serious way. Although a very few such children have survived for a time on ventilators, a few years at most, it’s questionable whether they ever had anything like a consciousness.
The baby is going to die of his birth defect. It is quite possible brain death has already occurred. It’s possible his brain was never “alive” in the sense of having normal function.
The woman has some seriously mistaken notions of what is going on. I don’t know how she arrived at them, but reality needs to take over at some point.
A very sad situation no matter how you look at it.

Sometimes people (and babies) die. Her fervent wish for him to live does not cancel out his profound deformities. If he was comatose because of an accident or similar then she should be allowed to hope for improvement. This poor baby never had a chance.
She is keeping him alive for HER sake not HIS. If she truly loved him, she would allow him to die in peace.
BTW, where in the article did it say she had been in a mental hospital?

That is apparently what The Houston Chronicle had to say about the situation.
Sun Hudson died last Tuesday, March 17, after being removed from his respirator.
