My Yahoo email yeeted itself into a new cartoonish looking appearance this afternoon at 2:12 PM EST. I have had yahoo email for more than 25 years. I was offered the opportunity (😂) to sign up to their new interface some years ago but declined. I prefer the simple classic site design with appropriate contrast and clear divisions. Now it seems I have been hurled into this new online space without warning or apology. I hate, hate, hate this new configuration. It gives me a headache, eyestrain and something resembling a melancholy tantrum. I’ll adjust. I always do. But damn it what a way to puncture my afternoon. ---

Fucking FBmarketplace. I listed an old treadle Singer sewing machine. Serial number tells me it’s really really old like 1860’s. 6 drawers carvings intact, machine is black with all this gold decoration and medallions. Beautiful ! Does it work? Like sew a stitch now? Guess it needs a belt and whatever. No I don’t sew. Listen up fuckers it’s only $25, I want it gone I need that space back. Either you want it or you don’t. Again $25. You need to look at it? Why? You obvs want an antique treadle singer sewing machine youve seen the pictures what could you possibly want to look at before you hand over 25 for it? Are you really going to drive 30 miles to take a look then say never mind. I’m only responding to polite people that know how to craft a message. fuck you tweakers tapping on “is it available “ you’re deleted. Also Mr Boomer Trump apologist, I’ll let you know but it’s too heavy for you and I ain’t helping you and wifey schlep it to your griege vehicle. ---

Thunderbird is free and, once you’ve configured it to your satisfaction (we have some threads here about that) works just fine. I haven’t seen either a Yahoo or Gmail native browser interface in many years! ---

I’ve used email clients ever since the days of Eudora, then Outlook, then migrated to Thunderbird because my old version of Outlook didn’t support the necessary security protocols. It took me a while to get used to Thunderbird, but with the help of some knowledgeable posters here I have it configured to my satisfaction and now it’s like an old friend. The great thing about an email client is that you own it and control it and you couldn’t care less what Yahoo or any other email service does to their browser interface. ---

I just got an email informing me that my elite VISA card will award me 4500 points for every $3000 that I spend at a Hyatt hotel or resort. This just illustrates the disconnect between my previous life and the current one. Yes, I have a prestigious elite VISA card. But the chances of me spending $3000 at a Hyatt resort are about the same as the chance of a snowstorm in hell. The card is a legacy of a past that no longer exists. I only keep it because I figure I can cash in the points for something useful, like food. 😐 OK, I’m being a little sarcastic. But only a little. ---

I’ve been having a rough month. Not to dredge it up again, but I’m dealing with my dad dying in June. In the meantime, I’m just doing gig work for the time being and I don’t have insurance. Trying to get my Lexipro prescription filled has been a shit-show. I let my prescription lapse - I’ve done so before and usually about 2 weeks in I’m desperate for my meds. This time around I’ve been off it for over three weeks. The effects have been profound. Last night I had a complete emotional breakdown and cried for an hour. Today, I was just getting rage-pissed at every little thing - screaming in the car and beating the steering wheel over missing a turn, and shit like that. So I called what I thought would be the quickest, cheapest option: Teledoc. They filled a prescription for me before so I didn’t think it would be a problem. It was a problem. I have to have been on my meds for 30 days straight for them to refill it, otherwise I’d have to make a separate appointment with their mental health department - in like four days. They ended the call with, “Is there anything else I can help you with?” I literally said, “Well, you haven’t helped me with anything yet.” They charged me the $89 dollars anyway, for doing absolutely nothing for me. I’m going to try to get it back, but ferchrissakes, what kind of shitty practice is that? So through my further rage-state I said fuck it and went to a QuickCare. The good news is that the doctor filled my prescription with one refill. The bad news is my blood pressure was through the roof. He actually wanted to refer me to another doctor for tests, but, dude, I’m broke, I can’t do that. He made me sign some piece of paper saying I refused to take his referral or some shit. I think my blood pressure is situational. I was in a fucking state when I walked into that place - I was near the end of my rope. BUT … I feel better now. I’m back on the meds and I can feel my head clearing up already. Thanks for letting me rant. ---

I hate the new Google Maps voice. They gave it more vocal fry and more expressiveness to make it sound more human, but instead it just sounds more fake and more irritating. The only fix I’ve seen is to change the voice from Default (English) to English (US), but then it stops speaking the street names. The other option suggested is to change the voice on my Android phone, but the voice on my Android phone isn’t the same voice as the Google Maps. ---
