I watch way to many Youtube videos, and refuse to pay for it, so I get ads.

Over the last week or so, 4 out of 5 are what I figured out is James Talarico asking for money for his Senate campaign. Good cause, presumably cheap to run, but dear Zeus the saturation is killing me! If i were a Texan, the onslaught might cause me to not vote for him (kidding!).

I also wonder what the algorithm looked at to decide to flood the zone on me.

@Folacin

I have given up trying to figure out these algorithms. They make no sense.

Even if they happen to make sense they are unwelcome (at least for me).

> I hate the new Google Maps voice

There are so many more problems with Google Maps than just the voice. If it gives me three options & I choose Option 2, don’t then ~~tell me~~ display on the bottom of the screen that you found a faster route & automatically change it unless I notice & press [dismiss] because when I have 40 or 50 miles to go to my next turn I don’t exactly pay attention to the map. I intentionally chose the route that was all of about 2 mins longer (on a 3+ hr drive) as it both eliminated tolls & gave us lunch options rather than the overpriced, crappy fast food or ::Shudder:: Sabarro pizza at the rest stop. More scenic, less fuel, more (& less expensive) food options at a grand total of 1% more time will _always_ be my choice (with the possible exception of inclement weather)

My rant from last night, & it ain't mini - I've always lived a lifestyle that makes most people cry, "Uncle" just hearing about it; I am most definitely \*not\* a sit at home & watch TV or lie by the pool on vacation type of person. In fact, I more seriously than joking say I look forward to Monday mornings when I can sleep in & go to work (there before 8:30am). I need to get my brain around the fact that I'm getting older & can't do all of the stuff I used to do, at least not back-to-back-to-back-to-back. The only interesting part about it is I made the doc say, "Jesus" a couple of times; however, the \*very bad\* part was I had to go see the doc.

> So through my further rage-state I said fuck it and went to a QuickCare. The good news is that the doctor filled my prescription with one refill.

I’m so sorry to hear how things have been. I’m glad you got your meds at least. Disruptions in meds can cause serious problems. This will likely help you stabilize. Good on you for being persistent.

* * *

We are trying to get my kid in to see a child psychiatrist because we believe the time for medication has arrived. He has severe ADHD and impulsivity and that is causing a lot of problems at school (a lot. I’m so much at my wit’s end.)

The appointment is for a doctor at a local health network, but here’s the idiocy - we can’t schedule an appointment with a psychiatrist unless he’s under care somewhere else in the health network. It doesn’t have to be regular care, just an appointment. So my husband scheduled him for the podiatrist (a thing we’d had on the back burner as my son is a toe-walker.) They can’t get him in to that appointment until October 2nd.

So to reiterate, we can’t schedule a psychiatrist until my son goes to the podiatrist.

Instead we scheduled him with his PCP to get him started on meds, which is far from ideal but we can’t wait until October or later to start. The kid’s in crisis.

The PCP isn’t until the end of the month either.

I spent two hours yesterday writing an email to the IEP team trying to give them anything I could think of that would help them put supports in place at school. I’m supposed to be relaxing. We’re meeting with the IEP team next week. I can’t really relax.

We’ve been here 2.5 months and we still don’t have living room furniture. Could be delivered any moment or four weeks from now. It wears on me, especially now that my kid keeps sitting in the one chair. I just want a living room. I just want to feel okay.

What should have taken ten minutes wound up taking closer to 45, and two phone calls, to get a new car radio installation scheduled with Best Buy. As I was looking for the radio model I wanted, their live chat agent popped up and asked if he could help. “Why yes you can! Please put item SKU:42069 in my cart, plus whatever hardware/bracketing you need to install it in my 2020 Kia Soul, plus the installation fee, and send me a link so I can pay in advance, and schedule the installation for this Saturday at any location in the St. Louis area, doesn’t matter which.”

No. Too easy and straightforward. I had to pay for the radio, then he sent me to another chat agent who couldn’t help me and made me call. The agent on the telephone barely spoke English, but eventually we reasoned out what I wanted, he put the bracket and the installation in my cart (and cut off part of the fee, I think because he could hear the frustration in my voice), and I paid. So then for the denoument, we found out that the radio was sent to _this_ store for some reason, the bracketing hardware will be sent to my home for some reason, but he can send the radio to _that_ store (where I’m getting the installation done) but I’ll have to bring the hardware. And it won’t be until the 26th. I fear that I’m going to show up to 7017 S. Lindbergh Blvd. St. Louis MO in a couple of weeks and find that nobody has any idea of what’s going on.

On top of that all, my bank somehow decided that hundreds of dollars’ worth of audio equipment being charged is suspicous, so my debit card was declined and I had to use my credit card. Yes I know, First World Problems and all that.

That is our weird and not so wonderful health care system.

The thing is, we started in Healthcare System A and my son was born into Healthcare System B. So all of his doctors are System B. But the psychiatrist we want is in system A. She’s the only one close to us and she comes highly recommended by a local friend who also has an autistic kid.

Otherwise we’re driving 40 minutes and we’d rather not.

This town is swarming with doctors; you’d think there would be more child psychiatrists.

My oldest daughter has serious mental health challenges and finding a local doctor to help her was one heck of an ordeal. Despite the massive number of them practicing in her immediate vicinity.

At this point she’s an adult but she was still a child when we started trying to find one. It’s a real problem.

My husband is actually a child and adolescent psychologist, he’s one of only three in the tri-county area who specializes in OCD. His wait-list cuts off at 2 years. Good for his job security, not so much for kids in the area.

This always presents additional challenges because we have to find someone he’s not professionally affiliated with. For example there was a local psychiatrist who may have fit the bill but he worked for the same practice my husband once did, and since he had a falling out with his previous boss when he left the practice, he didn’t want her reading case reports about his son. Whenever we need specialist mental health services it’s always a thing. A very annoying thing.

You can apparently sideload an app called “[SmartTube](https://smarttubeapp.github.io/)” onto a Chromecast device, and watch YouTube ad free in that app.

That’s a solution I see widely endorsed on Reddit (in multiple threads), but I have no personal experience with it.

We hired our cousin to sell our old manufactured home.

I bet you can imagine how that’s going. We were initially told it would be ready to list in a couple weeks. It’s been 5-6 weeks, still not listed. My husband prodded and now things are mostly cleaned up, so soon I hope? Also the cousin neglected to mention he’s having knee surgery this week, so god knows how long that’s going to set us back.

Meanwhile we’re still paying for everything on the old place. Things might have progressed more quickly if my father-in-law hadn’t stepped in with his own ingenious plan, which he convinced our cousin to implement, and which fell through.

And OMG, our cousin told us because it’s a manufactured home he can’t list it on the realtor’s site (fine) so we have to treat it like a car sale.

I said, “What about Zillow?”

He said, “OMG that’s a great idea. That’s what I get for letting AI think for me.”

(Everyone in my husband’s family is somehow connected to real estate. So we hired a different cousin to buy our new place, and she did a great job. But it made the other cousin(s) feel slighted. So that’s how this happened.)

No I’m sure that is incorrect, I see single wides listed in the MLS. There are three manufactured homes in my neighborhood that have all been listed at one time or another on the MLS. One is listed now.

Is the cousin part of a brokerage or a solo practitioner without access to the MLS?

He’s solo. He’s also never sold a manufactured home before. We figured since my father-in-law has sold about 100, it would be a good learning experience for the cousin as he can use my father-in-law’s expertise. My father-in-law no longer lives in the area and is not currently licensed. My father-in-law’s idea was to get an offer wholesale and force the park to purchase it (they have right of first refusal), but the wholesaler didn’t bite.

(His reasoning is that it would cost the manufactured home park $100k to replace the home, so they were likely to pay it just to avoid the cost/hassle. He knows a lot about this because he used to be the manager of this specific park.)

(also this is a 2,000 square foot double-wide, not sure if that makes a difference.)
