**DCH** has his faults. Chief among these is a lack of stunned respect and awe for an intellect that, while unconventional, far surpasses his own. I put this down to a morbid regret for a decision to go to law school, and abandon a career as an entrepreneur of tie-dyed shirts. There are others, of course, but time is limited. But by no stretch of the imagination can I believe that his use of the phrase “clever boy” had even the slightest, the merest, the most vanishingly minute _hint_ of racism. Clearly, this is an excercise in snotty condescension. Compared to racism, that’s just good clean fun. No hurt, no foul. All in all, I think this is a niggling complaint. ---
