# Dexter returning? (Spoilers are likely!)

This just popped up on my FB feed. It may be just a rumor. It may even be from April 1 (and possibly a joke), since I can’t find a date on the article.

There’s an obvious problem if they want to bring Jennifer Carpenter back. I would hope that they wouldn’t resort to “it was a dream” or “it was an hallucination” but short of some ridiculous fantasy or scifi explanation (please no!) I don’t see what else they could do.
Maybe a prequel?

I’m kinda sorta excited to hear this. It went downhill in later seasons, so that tempers my excitement somewhat.
Now confirmation of a Deadwood movie or Carnivale resurrection would do my heart good.
But would I watch new Dexter? Sure. Maybe the stuff with Jennifer Carpenter would be flashbacks or dream sequences of a tortured Dex.

Hall married wife #3 in Feb but he has not done much since Dexter ended so he probably would be open to make some cash.

While I like(d) the show, I’m not sure that there’s really more that needs to be added to it. I’d prefer a better ending, but that’s all.
They’d really need to find a different angle. And I mean to the extent that Dexter might not even be the main character. Granted, I’d still give it a try, even if they didn’t, but I’d feel like the producers really shouldn’t have bothered, the whole time.

I can’t really see most of the cast coming back, or a return to the Miami setting, unless he’s caught and brought back to stand trial.

I’m in the camp that says Dexter did everything it possibly could with the idea. I would certainly watch another season if it came out, but I don’t feel any real excitement about the prospect.
If they insist on Jennifer Carpenter, flashbacks seem like the obvious choice, but maybe some kind of mid-quel?
Actually, if they weren’t insisting on re-using actors, I’d prefer to see a young Dexter prequel. There seems like a lot of potential to explore Dex’s teenage years. Flashbacks have already outlined the events of his child hood well, but no to the extent that it wouldn’t make a good plot. Also, we know little about Dex’s life during his twenties, when he was presumably in college studying up on his degree in blood spatter.

I’ve seen it jokingly suggested that, as a lumberjack, he may be in the Pacific northwest and therefore could be part of Showtime’s _Twin Peaks_ revival.

A Deadwood movie would be awesome, can’t wait for that.
A Dexter movie could be good. No need to do an entire series, but a two-hour movie where Deb takes the place of Harry and where Dexter gets tracked down, caught and brought back to Miami to stand trial might be good.
