I was just messin’ with ya.
Unfortunately we will never know the answer to my question. I just traded the car in for something else. That was my first VW and without a doubt my last VW.
Thanks for the answers everyone.
Booooo!
(Congrats on the new car)
Seconded on the CV joint and any VW being someone’s last VW. (at least modern VW’s)
Replaced a CV axle on a friend’s Beetle Turbo after the engine fell out of it and broke one of them.
Last year, he had a strange wobble very similar to this that we fixed by replacing the CV on the other side.
VW engineers design some very cool things sometimes. However, it seems that while they have cool ideas about how to use new tech on their cars, they never figure out how to make it reliable or easy to work on.
When I have to remove a power steering pump to flush a radiator, I just have to wonder about the trouble of owning one of the newer VW’s. I have never, ever, opened to hood on one to make a repair and enjoyed myself. If it must be VW, it needs to be '80 or older.
