She had quite the range. Keaton played the very serious Kay Corleone in _The Godfather_ in 1972 and starred in the slapstick Woody Allen film _Sleeper_ in 1973.

> I remember a possibly apocryphal quote from Woody Allen when someone on set had a complaint about her–”Leave her alone. She’s a fucking genius.” Love and Death is still a masterpiece.

It absolutely is – possibly one of Allen’s best and most creative!

The legal name of the actor Stewart Granger was James Stewart but he couldn’t use it because another famous actor had it.

It’s his funniest film, hands down. Other films he made in the 1970s may be more intelligent and profound, but none of them have as many laughs per minute as L&D. Great use of Prokofiev, too.

Here’s my favorite scene:

I love the pseudo-intellectual fake philosophical discussions between Allen and Diane Keaton as his cousin Sonja, reflecting classic Russian writers’ dreary obsession with life and death and the meaning of it all. The Canadian humourist Stephen Leacock, in his book _Nonsense Novels_, parodied a wide variety of writing styles and genres, including this classic Russian one, where the world is perpetually dreary and filled with secrets and mysteries and no one knows anything.

> My apologies. You’re right. I should have said that in the 55 years from 1970 to 2024, she made 64 movies.

At any rate, she seems to have spent her years doing what she really enjoyed.

The first movie I remember seeing Diane Keaton in was _The Godfather_, and I remember thinking she was wooden and terrible in it. Only after many years and seeing it many more times did I realize that’s exactly how the PART should have been played, and she did it masterfully. I’m a terrible movie critic.

I hope Diane finally found Mr. Goodbar

I can’t remember the movie title. I have a vivid memory of Diane walking down the street with a ridiculously large painting of a flower. She played the scene really well.

RIP

The pneumonia vaccine is highly recommended for us seniors. As I’m sure everyone knows, if something else is going on health-wise, pneumonia is a serious danger. 😢

Pneumonia can be a much kinder death for the elderly than suffering through dementia or cancer.

I did get the Pneumonia vaccine a couple years ago. Primarily because my underlying health is still good. I might not get a booster in10 years. It depends on my overall health and independence.

[I see on imdb Diane](https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0000473) has several projects that she did in the last couple years. Apparently she was able to work until recently.

Absolutely. Pneumonia usually happens as a secondary effect of some other illness (e.g. measles). The shots provide some assurance that such a fatal development won’t happen.

I have the feeling that there might be more to Keaton’s death circumstances that the family is choosing not to share–but of course that’s their prerogative.
