It turns out that at least two persons I worked with were members. One of them still is. So I can’t discuss the really juicy stuff any more. ---

In a thread, years ago, about rude drivers cutting you off, another Doper described a situation at a McDonalds. Their account of how the drive in and connecting alley were arranged sounded exactly like a nearby McD’s so I contacted them and sure enough they were in my town! So we got together, and have since met again at Dopefests. They moved to another town and married yet a third Doper. OMG, we’re breeding! ---

Not quite accidently. I posted a thread about moving into a new apartment complex, and another doper realized he lived in the same complex. So we met, but we were just too different, we didn’t become pals or hang out. ---

Last year I saw someone at the Atlanta airport browsing on WiFi and posting on the SDMB. I didn’t see their logged-in name, and since I prefer to be anonymous I didn’t introduce myself. They were male, about 5’10", about 250 pounds with dark hair and a full but close-cut beard and mustache, with glasses. ---

No and in fact I’m actually paranoid of this ever happening. I’m not opposed to RL meeting at all (I’ve been to a dopefest and met another doper apart from that), but I do not want it to happen on accident for some weird reason. I tend to gloss over real life details on the board and gloss over board details in real life. It’s always “a discussion I was having . . . ,” or “a newsgroup I post to,” or “a message board I read.” Never “The Straight Dope.” I know plenty of people who would love it here but I’ve never told any of them about it. And in case **Hostile Dialect** reads this thread: I was at ComicCon 2003. ---

there’s a woman from the SF hardcore puck scene in the early 80’s hat i had to have bumped nto t the time. Mark Buettner turned me on to one of Cecil’s books 20 ears go, but i’m ure he’s not a poster or he would have figured this oiut already. alumni of KDVS probably post but no connection yet. i’ve suspected a few people but they don’t respond to softballs like ‘cecile’ ‘hi opal’ ‘bring pie’ ‘blimps’ burning your dog’ ad nauseum. ---
