Well spotted on that ‘van’ line. It must have been a valuable vehicle, because later on there are references to a vang(u)ard. But surely the biggest anachronism is in the title of the second book. Clearly there are caravans owned by Saruman and Sauron, because they each have a tower (probably an SUV). ---

I saw ROTK yesterday. There seemed to be several “bloopers” in the film. Can’t honestly say I caught the eyeglasses though. @@ [Take a peek at these.](http://www.moviemistakes.com/film2746) ---

BTW: My son claimed he saw a “new” house in the far background of a scene. I’ll have to check it out when the DVD is available. Doubt I’ll sit through it again at the cinema. ---

He was wearing glasses so that nobody would hit him. But Legolas and Gimli totalling up their kill numbers on their Palm Pilots was just plain WRONG…Timmy ---

Now… correct me if I’m wrong, because its been twelve-odd years since I read ROTK, but wasn’t it Gollum who threw the ring into the fires of Mount Doom at the end, thus redeeming himself? ---

What got me was that last scene, with Sauron, diven out of Mordor down the Harad Road, turning and saying, “Tomorrow is another day. As Eru is my witness, I’ll never go hungry again!” ---

Must have been one of the alternate endings I saw then. In mine, Sauron, dressed in a black leather jacket, puts on his Gargoyle glasses and says, “I’ll be back.” ---

The only thing I noticed in the movie that bothered me a little bit was the lighting of the signal fires . They kept showing them lighting up, one after another, and they kept looking like more and more remote locations, until we get to one that’s at the top of a mountain, completely obscured by clouds! I mean to tell ya, there was a cloud layer beneath that fire that would have completely obscured the fire. What’s that about? Who was supposed to see it? Secondly, I sat there wondering if, in the past, one of the watchmen ever started the fire by accident, then helplessly watched as all the other signal fires lit up in order, and had to apologize to the whole damned Gondorian Army when they showed up a couple days later, breathless, on their doorstep. ---

Well, the beacons did seem to be all located high in the mountains. I imagine that the “next” beacon was on another high crag, somewhere off screen. Just because people in the valleys can’t see that particular beacon doesn’t mean the men on duty at the next signal fire cannot. ---
