Did anyone here ever have someone knock on your door and ask for food?

When I lived in my old house, I had a guy knock on my door and ask if he could mow my lawn, and quoted a price. It needed to be done, and we were having a stretch of very hot weather, so I said yes. He mowed my lawn, and honestly did a very good job. I did cringe a bit when I saw him with a cigarette in his mouth while pushing my gas-powered mower. :smack: Never saw him again.

I also had a woman knock on my door after a snowstorm and offer to shovel my sidewalk because she said she needed money to buy diapers. I had some diapers that I was going to donate to a food pantry, and they happened to be the size she needed, so she shoveled my driveway too.

I’ve done the knocking before–as part of a Christmas canned foods drive. Though I notice we now get a note in the mail, mentioning that we can hang a sack by our mailbox and that they’ll come and pick it up.
