# Did anyone like the movie "Underworld"?

Did you like it or not?
IMO it was a sytlized, clumsily’lazily written, cliche ridden movie even beyond the point of self camp. A few brief high points, but mostly a self indulgent exercise in goth fetish outfits and Blade-Martrix combo ripoffs. The only interesting characters with any spark were the head of the wolf clan, and occasionally the old resurrected vampire.

The thing I liked about it was its earnestness. It seemed that, for all his lack of skill, whoever put it together really cared about the story he was telling. Contrast with, say, _League of Extraordinary Gentlemen_, which clearly had come under the shadow of a suit who didn’t get the source material and didn’t give a shit about it. Because of that, I can forgive a lot. I wouldn’t say it was a good movie by any length, but I still found it somewhat ejoyable. I doubt I’d watch it again, but I would be up for a sequel.

It was a fun movie just to watch. Not every movie has to make you think or be an artistic masterpiece to be good.
Plus any movie that pits Vampires against Werewolves rocks. There aren’t enough of those IMHO.

It was entertaining, and if there’s a sequel, I’ll rent it. But it sure would’ve been nice if they had had just a little more expository dialogue.

heh what’s this like the third thread trying to say Underworld wasn’t that bad?
It was terrible. The F/X were terrible (I laughed out loud when the CGI werewolves were climbing down the hallway muppets would have been scarier). The writting was terrible. The action was extremely terrible (I liked how the vamps would sit around and watch the wolves transform instead of attacking them). The female lead was hot. That’s the only positive thing I can say about that stinker.

I didn’t think it was all that good. Werewolves and Vampires shouldn’t use guns to fight, and thousand year old vampires shouldn’t pass out from blood loss after being stabbed in the shoulder and then fall in love at the drop of a hat. It was whole lot more entertaining than “Lost in Translation” though.

The sequel will begin filming this fall assuming that the company doesn’t go bank-o from the lawsuit against them.

I think it had a lot of potential. Lots of things were stupid (the ubervamp at the end :rolleyes: ), but, as I said after seeing a trailer: “You’re right, it does look like a cross between Matrix, Blade, and Romeo and Juliet. I think that’s a _good_ thing.”

Heh. 😉 It wasn’t a _good_ movie, but you’re right, it was far less painful to watch than Lost in Translation. If a movie can’t be good, let it at least be entertaining! That said, even League was more entertaining than Lost…

It was better than I expected, which gives it some esteem in my eyes. None of the fighting was very good, but I did like the fact that the plot at least took a good shot at twisting around a bit. As in,
I liked the fact that it started out looking like we were supposed to identify with or cheer for the vampires for no reason other than that we had a vampire protagonist, and they turned it around with the revelation to the main character that, sorry, it turns out vampires were the bad guys in this war all along. Your life has been a lie. Whoopsie!

Saw it as a double-feature with Kill Bill a couple of months ago. After giving it some consideration, I have to say it was at worst mediocre. What made it feel like such a bad movie (to me, anyway) was that it had the potential to be a really good movie. It didn’t feel like it was done on the cheap, or by someone who didn’t care, it was just, as **Cervaise** said, inept. It’s one thing to have characters go through major, gut-wrenching transitions of conscience, but when they repeatedly do so at the drop of a hat, you just stop caring.

And remember, kids and kid-ettes, the werewolves AREN’T lichens. Lichens are small and plant-like, and do not possess huge fangs and claws.

I actually rented it the other day. I did like it. When I go to a movie I am going to suspend disbelief for a couple of hours. I never got bored in that movie as I have in others.
