If you want it it TVTropes terms, I think they were Heterosexual Life Partners. Also, remember that Peppermint Patty has a crush on Charlie Brown, not on Marcie. Unrequited love does not a couple make. ---

The earliest Patty in Peanuts wished she were a boy. That along with Marcie calling her sir makes me think PP is FTM. ---
