[Quark](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quark_%28dairy_product%29) with linseed oil, actually. Not really the same thing as cottage cheese. I can find plenty of references to Hitler eating quark, but none of him eating cottage cheese (_Hüttenkäse_ in German).

Gutted and steeped in hot water. According to his private secretary, [Traudl Junge](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traudl_Junge), one of Hitler’s two favourite drinks was a tea made from apple peels. The other was caraway tea. (Maybe it’s better to call them tisanes or infusions, since I don’t know that there was any actual tea in them.)

Is there any evidence Hitler liked the tequila/salt/lime deal, chased with a corona? Cause he’d pretty much need to start with some guacamole if he did.

Da fuque? And this too:
[QUOTE=Try2BComprehensive]

But seriously, I think it is possible that Hitler ate guacamole, though not likely. Did he have cumin? Did he have tomatoes? Um, he was the Fuhrer, I think he probably could have procured those things.
[/QUOTE]

What kind of communist puts _cumin_ in guacamole? And lime is _essential_. Garlic is optional.

This article sez Hitler was [mostly vegetarian](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolf_Hitler_and_vegetarianism), and discussed raw vegetables in his table talks. No mention of avocados, but he did like vegetable puddings, which could include guacamole.

My brain was screaming cilantro, but my fingers typed cumin anyway. :smack: Maybe Cuban communists have used cumin…

And I want to correct my earlier error- I said Mexico had a deal with the Germans in WW2, oops, I was thinking WWI, from [here](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germany%E2%80%93Mexico_relations)

> In January 1917, British agents intercepted a telegram sent to German Ambassador to Mexico Heinrich von Eckardt by Arthur Zimmermann, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the German Empire. In the telegram, Germany proposed to Mexico that if the United States were to join the war, Mexico should join and side with the Central Powers. In appreciation, and if the Central Powers were to win, Mexico would recuperate the territory of Texas, New Mexico and Arizona that Mexico lost in its war with the United States during the Mexican–American War in 1848. The telegram, known as the Zimmermann Telegram was intercepted when the telegram was being wired to the German embassy in Washington, DC to be re-routed to Mexico City. Mexico eventually rejected the telegram and continued to remain neutral during the war.[2]
>
> On 22 May 1942, Mexico declared war on Germany during World War II. The decision for war was made by Mexican President Manuel Ávila Camacho after German U-boats destroyed two Mexican oil tankers in the Gulf of Mexico; the SS Potrero del Llano and SS Faja de Oro, both carrying crude oil to the United States. Mexico is only one of two Latin-American nations to contribute soldiers during the war (the other nation being Brazil).

It is not like Mexico is the only place from which you can source cilantro, but we can score it as one more point against Hitler getting guacamole. OTOH Italians use cilantro, Hitler could have got some from there, but would they have used it with avocados?

Maultaschen are fantastic! There’s a Polish pierogi place I go to around here that sells pierogi with maultaschen fillings (basically, a nutmeggy meat & spinach filling.)

One of the biographies I read back in the '80s (Joachim Fest’s?) specifically mentioned Hitler ordering ravioli at a restaurant, but I suppose he indulged in dumplings of other nationalities as well.

The incident occurred during a road trip in his new Mercedes after he struck it rich with _ **Mein Kampf** _.

Well, according to the Morell documentary, it gives you bad breath and makes your stool yellow-brown and mushy (in addition to giving you cramps and making you fart).

In Russia, BTW, a vegetarian diet is mandatory among the faithful during Orthodox Lent. I once had a girlfriend who adhered to this and her breath was really, \*really \*bad! ☹

You first had me wondering where they got 50 gallons of gasoline in Berlin at that time, but my faith in the utter shittiness around them was restored when you showed there wasn’t much more. Maybe somebody siphoned it off a parked T-34.

It wasn’t as though they were getting regular refills at the corner station. The military, especially the SS, still had access to whatever gasoline was available. The Fuehrerbunker had been hoarding it for some time for, shall we say, extreme circumstances. Hitler’s cremation qualified on that score.

An interesting question. On one hand you have a person with a mainly vegetarian diet with access to almost unlimited resources with respect to acquiring vegetarian foods and this food was reasonably well known in Spain and France In the 1700-1800s and accessible via West Indies importing in the 30’s and 40’s. While the avocado was not all over the place as it is today it was probably accessible in Europe if you wanted it but you would probably have to go looking for it and bring it from Spain or France to Germany and considering ripening speed the journey would have to be speedy to have an edible fruit.

I would bet it was better than 50% he tried it at least once in his travels outside Germany.

> The earliest known written account of the avocado in Europe is that of Martín Fernández de Enciso (circa 1470–1528) in 1519 in his book, Suma De Geographia Que Trata De Todas Las Partidas Y Provincias Del Mundo.[10][11] The first written record in English of the use of the word ‘avocado’ was by Hans Sloane in a 1696 index of Jamaican plants. The plant was introduced to Indonesia in 1750, Brazil in 1809, South Africa and Australia in the late 1800s, and the Levant in 1908

> For reasons related to the word’s origin, the avocado is also considered an aphrodisiac. According to the book The Aphrodisiac Encyclopaedia, by the time the fruit traveled to Europe, the Sun King (Louis XIV) nicknamed avocados la bonne poire (the good pear) because he believed it restored his lagging libido.

He didn’t exactly travel much outside of Germany. He visited Mussolini in Italy in 1938; went to Vienna during the Anschluss in '38, to Prague in '39, and to Paris in 1940; and traveled south by train to meet with Mussolini, Franco, Laval, and Petain between 1940 and '42. He also went to Finland for a meeting with Mannerheim in '42.

All of his other travels outside Germany (France, Belgium, Poland, Ukraine) were connected with the military campaigns of WWI and WWII.\*

\*Have I missed any? :dubious:
