Granted, I’m getting this from Allied WWII propaganda movies but I recall more than one of these movies showing a map of what the USA would look like had the Axis powers won the war and what they had planned. Japan would have control west of the Rockies, Germany east. Italy would get the area around Florida.

Any truth to this at all, even in their best-case-scenario planning stages?

The second prototype of the Junkers 390 (the “Amerika Bomber”) is rumoured to have demonstrated its potential as a long-range maritime reconnaissance aircraft by flying from Mont-de-Marsan in France to a point 20km from New York City, and back. If true, this is probably the closest that Germany came to anything like a direct strike against the US.
