Did I lose two feet of hair? Rue-style karma boosting recruitment (MADS)

So excited you thought you’d donate twice?

Lemme look into Saturday place/date/time things, I’d love to get a group together, but I do a lot more of the working thing on Saturdays so I may have to pull some slick maneuvers, ie)

To Place of Work: Hey guys, can you find a sub for this Saturday?

Place of Work: Umm, we can look around, but what’s up?

To Place of Work: Well, I won’t be feeling very well. I mean, I’m feeling very…unwell as we speak.

Place of Work: Oh, we’re so sorry you’re ill, we’ll let you know when we find somebody…

(the unspoken bit is where they ask WHY I’m not feeling so terribly well, and the answer is, “OH, I’m not ill in the least, it’s because I’ll be faint from loss of blood.” Then they’ll say, oh, you think the first class is going to go that well?" And I’d have to say “No, no, I’m volunteering you see…” Probably best to let this remain unspoken.)

If you’re still considering options, I’m giving blood on Thursday, October 16th at 6:15pm at the Fairfax Donor Center.

I know this isn’t close to the time or place which you’d suggested, but you might still want to think about this: The Fairfax Donor Center is shiny and new! It’s big and bright and has wonderful new chairs! The personnel are so happy to be out of the old donor center that they are more cheerful and skillful! (OK, I don’t know that for sure.)

If anyone would like to join me, I can give a ride from the Rosslyn Metro at 5:30, we can go get drained, then go out to dinner to reward ourselves for being so selfless and then I can drop you back at the Metro. Sounds like a winner to me!

Fairfax is a lot more doable for me, so if that works out for everyone else, I’d be in favor of it.

I don’t mind needles at all, but I still cannot donate blood. You see, I am one of those people who must be fully hydrated at all times. I am hardly ever without glass of water, tea, juice, etc. in hand. If I am not peeing once an hour, then something is wrong. Anyway, giving blood dehydrates me and makes me feel really sick! The first and last time I did it, I felt sick for 24 hours. But hey, it’d be fun to watch y’all get the blood sucked out of you!

(I figure I’ll get my good karma when I die and donate all my organs.)

((You know, the hair donation thing makes me wonder…the sheer amount of hair that come out of my head on a daily basis and clogs my drains, fills up my hairbrush, sticks all over my clothes and carpets, I wish there was a way to donate this! I have long hair, about a foot and a half, and all this fallen-out hair is going to waste! Oh well, my hair is like my security blanket, so I wouldn’t have the guts or courage to cut it like panache did.))

Hey, Anita if that offer of a ride from Rosslyn is for real then count me in. I’m attracted to all things shiny and new, and I trust ya that the staff will be crackerjack needle inserters. Do you know any good low-key spots to treat ourselves after?

Fairfax has all your standard watering holes and whatnot. I know that area a little, so if you can get me an address, Anita, I can probably find something nearby.

Great! Thursday, October 16th it is!

I have an appointment, and anyone interested can also make one also, but I don’t know why the Red Cross even bothers since they will accept all walk-ins and take donors first-come first-served. For what it’s worth, if you want to make an appt call 1800 GIVE LIFE.

My office is right across the street from the Rosslyn Metro, so anyone who wants a ride should meet me on Moore St at 5:30. I will drop riders at the East Falls Church Metro after dinner. Anna, shoot me an email and I’ll give you my cell number.

nyctea scandiaca most folks feel “drained” afterwards; are you sure that’s not all it is? Would you consider trying again? (I’m sure your sweetie will take care of you if you feel weak. ) In any case will you and TTO be joining us for the bloodletting and festivities afterwards?

The new Fairfax donor center is on Prosperity in the Business Campus off Lee Hwy. What do you think, UF? There are tons of places to eat, but the only place which comes to my mind is an upscale burger place on Old Lee Hwy at Fairfax Circle, but a senior moment is keeping me from remembering the name.

Hmm…I’ll have to check. What time are we meeting over there?

I knew that I’d think of it as soon as I hit “submit”: Artie’s. The entrees are a bit expensive, but the burgers won’t break the bank. It is one of the “Great American Restaurant” chain, which includes Silverado, Sweet Water, Mike’s, Carlyle Grand and the Best Buns Bread Company.

I’d love to give blood, since it’s ever so much fun getting poked by a needle, but since I just had some taken from me I’m not supposed to give more until 30 October or so.

Hee, hee! Have fun!

My guess is that we will arrive at the RC at 6:15pm. Where are you coming from?

I’m coming from 28. 6:15 shouldn’t be too much trouble, although traffic in Fairfax can get pretty bad.

panache and ultrafilter are we still on for the bloodletting tomorrow? Anyone else want to join us?

Yep, “Get Vampired” has it’s own special entry for tomorrow 5:30pm! See ya at the metro station 5:30.

I hope so, but I’m not 100% sure that I’ll be able to get away from work that early–things are kinda busy right now. I’ll be there if I can.

btw, do you have an address for this place? I have a rough idea of where it is, but I’m not 100% certain.

FAIRFAX DONOR CENTER
2720 Prosperity Avenue
Fairfax, VA 22031

If you can get there by 7:00 we will certainly still be there. Hope you can make it.

It looks like I should be able to make it, barring an emergency of some kind. Traffic could be interesting–we’ll see how that goes.

(I meant to add this: 5:30 is the time panache and I are meeting at the Metro. My Red Cross appointment is at 6:15)
