Anchors and other TV people (male and female) frequently position themselves at an angle so they are not directly facing the camera. Not surprising that a candidate for office would get similar advice on how to best present themselves on TV. In this case it’s quite an embarassment - to the denizens of the SDMB who’ve posted leering, smirking comments about her in this thread. She’s a female politician against whom you hold a grudge, so we get all these dumb chauvinistic remarks. I am no fan of Katherine Harris, but sheesh - grow up. ---

No mention of The Daily Show’s take on this (“Have you met my running mates?”)? They also mocked the entirely too close relationship between Harris and Hannity (“This is usually the part of the interview where Combs is asked to wait in the car.”). ---

A pitting is certainly in order after I saw her appearance on Hannity and Colmes, courtesy of the Daily Show. What the fu… Who positions themselves like that for an INTERVIEW? Not for 8 x 10s at GlamourShots, but a living, breathing, interview? I am certain the first thought of 90 percent of the people who saw this was “Why is she standing in such a bizarre manner?” Maybe some noticed her “girls” or “good side,” but if she’s trying to gain credibility outside of her core constituency, she certainly came across as a fuckin’ weirdo. Generally, in politics, it seems that when you’re accused of some unflattering behavior (famewhoring? caking on makeup?) you’re supposed to do something to disprove that accusation - Hilary Clinton hanging out with Newt Gingrich, Dan Quayle reading books, etc. So what kind of advice is she getting that says, “You know, a large percentage of the populace thinks you’re a bit of a ditz and you place an excessive importance on your appearance. Why don’t we have you sit at a bizarre angle, as if you’re about to take a $19.95 family set at Sears? That’ll get people on your side.” Her “consultants” should be pitted, as should she for taking this numbskull advice. ---

Saw her on The Daily Show. They showed clips from the interview and from 2000. She looks bigger. She also looks like she took some lessons in how to apply make-up. Believe me, that can make a huge difference to the face. But even is she wasn’t enhanced, she was sure trying to show them off. She was basically flirting. ---

Here’s a random question: I have heard that the White House and the Florida Republican Party have been actively searching for someone else to run for the Senate seat. Is this sort of thing the reason why? I mean, Bush owes Harris an astonishing and overwhelming amount of goodwill. I can’t imagine why the party wouldn’t support her in anything she wanted to run for. Is she really that weird? What has her service been like in the House? ---

Also, I wonder if it’s possible that she didn’t read the camera cues and was simply facing the wrong camera? Whatever. I have to admit, she gives me a creepy vibe. She definitely comes across as strange. Maybe it’s a combination of vanity and age - she’s becoming the Zha Zha of politics or something. Same with that other woman running against Hillary. Not only was the stop-and-dig-for-your-notes thing incredibly inept, but she looked off-putting as well. I get the feeling that both of these people are novelty candidates. On the other hand, both have track records of considerable accomplishment, so maybe it’s just that both of them are charisma challenged. ---

Finally saw the tape on “The Daily Show”; I’ve never seen any politician, male or female, pose that way. It would have looked bizarre even if I didn’t think Harris was an evil cunt. When she was elected to the House in the 2002 midterms, they reported that on “The Daily Show” under the category “You are fucking kidding me!” ---
