Did Marley violate SDMB protocol here?

I’ve said nothing of the sort. You came here claiming that you have encountered a rule not being observed. It is incumbent upon you to provide evidence that this rule exists. You’ve already said that such a case should be easy to find, so go. Find it.

“‘You miss 100% of the shots you never take.’ - Wayne Gretzky” - Michael Scott

Excellent. Any time I feel like mischaracterizing someone’s argument in the future, I’ll simply simply put something he didn’t write inside quotation marks and then claim that I’m not being malicious, merely attempting to summarize.

Surely you mean “by unanimous decision of all the posters except for prr”, right?

I foresee that working out well for you.

Still too subtle for me.

Giraffe, I am surprised to hear you admit that “[T]he mods had a lengthy…s exact…back in 2006.” That must have been quite a sight!

Why do the mods put up with this shit? Seriously? I refuse to believe these complaints are genuine.

Holy crap, I laughed…

So now that you’ve finally been forced to see that the rule is what every mod and every other poster says it is, instead of apologizing you gleefully declare that you intend to use this newly understood rule as an excuse to allow you to be a jerk, in violation of SDMB rule #1. The fact that said rule has worked so well for years that you were unable to find even a single instance of anyone complaining about the rule–much less blatantly misusing it–notwithstanding.

I think I can accurately summarize your position as, “I lost so I’m going to be a big jerk and you can’t stop me! Neener, neener!”

Wise plan. One’s jerk-quiver should always be well stocked with arrows.

How do the rules about quotation marks, as defined here on SDMB, compare with the rules about quotation marks in the real world?

As I learned it, quotation marks are really supposed to be used for exact quotations, not for paraphrases. (This is aside from various other uses for quote marks, like the so-called “scare quotes” and other uses.)

Exact quote: Abraham Lincoln said “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

Paraphrase: Abraham Lincoln said that a nation fighting a civil war will certainly collapse.

Given the availability of

tags for exact quotes, it seems that SDMB has downgraded the old-school pedestrian quotation marks to have a less formal meaning than they traditionally do. This may suffice to explain why it is a matter of confusion here.

Uh, you’re overlooking something here. To the extent that Anonymous User is a moderator at all, he very literally IS a junior moderator. He is a junior junior moderator.

There is no confusion here. It is a non-issue.

Warning

prr, we’ve had it with your endless whining. You’ve had eight warnings and a suspension. If you whine about anything ever again, or violate any rule even slightly, or do anything we consider remotely jerklike, we’ll ban you without further notice.

Jesus–I’m hardly a big fan of a lot of the moderating here, but your posts are idiotic. Paraphrasing someone with quotation marks has always been ok, messing with text in the quote box has always been forbidden.

There’s absolutely no rule that says I can’t say that pseudotriton ruber ruber said “I’m just complaining for the fun of complaining”.

Dude, if you’re going to bitch about mod behavior, bitch about it when they actually break rules they have, not rules that you make up in your head.

Again: Marley’s right, you’re wrong. Give it up.

I retract all that terrible stuff I said about you in the past.

That’ll show 'em!!

[posted as a poster] This beats paying him to go away. [/poster]

That is SO mean.

I admire that.

I believe all that needs to be said has been said here.

Thanks.
