> SingleMalt made the claim that “There is little point in meeting with Trump, as he has demonstrated that he is willing to renege on any deal that Ann Coulter disapproves of.” I think it’s a pretty absurd claim, and one for which he didn’t provide any evidence…

Here’s some evidence:

> [@](#):
>
> As you may recall, Donald Trump stumbled into the current partial government shutdown in December after right-wing gabbers scorned him for signaling he might back down from his earlier boasts about being willing to close the government if his border-wall demands weren’t satisfied. Two voices were especially influential, as the Washington Post observed at the time:
>
> > [@](#):
> >
> > On his radio show Wednesday, Limbaugh said the president was “getting ready to cave” on getting money for the wall in the budget.
> >
> > ```
> > “It’s a textbook example of what the drive-by media calls compromise,” Limbaugh said. “Trump gets nothing, and the Democrats get everything, including control of the House.”
> >
> > ```
>
> > [@](#):
> >
> > Coulter, during a podcast on the Daily Caller, said Trump’s White House would become “a joke presidency that scammed the American people” if he didn’t build the wall, adding that “he’ll have no legacy whatsoever.” She also wrote a scathing column about the president and launched a flurry of criticisms on Twitter.

And…

> [@](#):
>
> Fox News political analyst Juan Williams on Wednesday said that Fox News host Sean Hannity, radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh and conservative commentator Ann Coulter were essentially running the U.S. government.
>
> “I’ll tell you what you should do. You should go listen to Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter, because they’re running this government,” Williams, who is a columnist for The Hill, said in an exchange with GOP strategist Karl Rove in an appearance on “The Story” on Fox News.

I don’t think a handful of opinion pieces really count as “evidence” of much, except that some other libs share your opinion, but, granting for purposes of this post that perhaps SingleMalt is right and “he is willing to renege on any deal that Ann Coulter disapproves of”, doesn’t that just bring us back to the point that I made earlier:

Do you see that as substantially different from Juan Williams’ opinion (“I’ll tell you what you should do. You should go listen to Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter, because they’re running this government”)?

So, IOW, the fact that Trump reneged on the deal AFTER Limbaugh and Coulter screamed and squalled about it…is just an amazing coincidence? :dubious:

I’m still fascinated by the novel concept of being able to negotiate with unauthorized agents. Holy hell, this would make things so simple.

“Why did you give me an ‘F’?”
“Because you didn’t answer a single question.”
“Well, I talked about this with my invisible friend Ms. Roofus and she says I deserve an ‘A’, so give me the A.”
“OK.”

Remember: this is the “President” whose biggest contrubution to the planning of America’s giant military was “Me wants me a big parade like Kim Jong-il gets!” This is the man who, rather than writing essays for publication, appears in a Dixieland cowfield before his high-school dropout supporters and [hired shills](https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2015/07/crowd-hiring-politics-campaign-2016/399002/). Standing and farting in the dais of the House Chamber, turning around to smirk at Pelosi whenever he insults her with full knowledge that the Dems ([unlike Gopsters](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81CVSzPBO1w)) will remain civil — this would be a very happy day for him and the mindless Trumpsters.

> Baby wanted to shit on the nation’s most famous dome and brag “Look what I can do!” Pelosi denies him that opportunity. What’s hard to understand?

No, I get _that_ part. I get that Trump wanted to deliver the SOTU right there, and she told him ‘no’, and, _ooh, that’s gotta sting._ That makes perfect sense.

But the next part only makes sense if he was going to reply, ‘Well, okay, then: tell the networks that, once more, The President has Big Important Things To Say and so will address the nation from The White House.’ I have to assume that — and assume that he would’ve been pretty happy about that — and also assume that, instead, oh, it sure did ‘eat him up’ when Pelosi said he could do that if he wants.

That’s what I don’t get: telling him he can’t do what he wants, sure; but telling him he _can_ do what he wants? That, as someone said, will “eat him up”?

Seriously?

Look, I don’t really know you — but if you ever decide you really want a guy to stop posting on this board, I figure you’d maybe report some of his objectionable posts to the powers that be. I _don’t,_ though, figure you’d say “hey, you can post here if you want,” in hopes that it’d Eat Him Up, because — is that a _thing?_

A few years ago, “someone literally shit on the” flag. I know, I know, the flag and the Constitution are not the same, but given that the former happened, it’s not difficult for me to imagine some dumb liberal doing it to the latter as well, at least if they thought their bit of “performance art” would pack a similar punch.

> [@Ravenman](#):

Where is the prohibition on volunteer services found? Is it in the Constitution? Here’s a refresher for you: The post I responded to said this (in part):

> [@JohnT](#):
>
> Tragically, Anne Coulter has no Constitutional authority to negotiate with Pelosi, nor would Pelosi stoop so low.
>

And my post about that said this:

> [@HurricaneDitka](#):
>
> Huh? What does the Constitution have to do with who Pelosi negotiates with? Ultimately, there are some steps that have to be followed for a bill, such as a bill funding government operations for the currently “shut down” departments, to become law, but in the interim, the Constitution is silent on the specifics of how President Trump or Pelosi negotiate a way out of the impasse. If he wanted to send Ivanka, or Melania, or Ann Coulter to work out the details, that’d be just fine.
