Did The LaSalle Run Great?

I remembered that in addition to ‘hearing’ Joe Garagiola (was he a sportscaster or something?), I also imagined it said, ‘Gee, a rolla salary rate’ and ‘Gee, a rolla Sal red rate’. Didn’t make sense at all. At that time, I’d never even heard of a La Salle.

I thought it was “G L O La sell red gray” in the day, before my parents explained it to me.

I’m wondering what time period the Bunkers were singing about. Were there still plenty of old LaSalles on the road as daily drivers in … oh, the late 1940s or early 1950s?

Bunkers were around 50 y/o in 1974 (give or take a few years one way or the other).

They had plenty of time to experience the LaSalle autos at their absolute peak.

As Gracie Allen pointed out in her 1940 presidental campaign…
