I was watching the beach volleyball matches and noticed another rule change. I’m not sure if this applies to the gym version of the sport, but now you play a serve after it hits the tape and goes over the net? That’s a pretty big change as well.
So long as the ball lands inside the court, it’s good, even if it hits the net and dribbles over. This applies to beach and indoor volleyball. They also changed the indoor rule a few years ago that allows the server to serve from anywhere on the baseline instead of just from the back right corner. I think that was always the rule outdoors.
How about reaching over the net?
My hazy recollection from long-ago phys-ed days was that you couldn’t reach across the plane of the net to the other team’s side, but I’ve seen that happen all the time in the Olympics.
