Yes. Florida, Christian school, 1970s.

In the third grade, I got paddled all the time because I couldn’t seem to remember to have my mom sign my homework. I did the work, but without her signature it was apparently useless. After the paddling, the dean would pray with me. After a few weeks, she’d call in the secretary to help us pray. Once, a group who was visiting the school witnessed my paddling and then we all prayed together.

Even back then, I could not believe eight grown people thought they needed to bug Jesus about this.
