Did the tow truck driver who refused to help a handicapped Sanders supporter violate any laws?

Then why did he say it was about the bumper sticker? And that his religion didn’t allow him to tow her car?

If you read the second linked article he did mention concern about getting paid along with all the other stuff.

I only read the first.

There are assholes and there are criminals, and the amount of overlap may be less than you think.

What if the woman was a member of AAA and she called AAA for assistance and the Trumper was contracted to AAA as a AAA tower. Just ask’in.

In our little jurisdiction (Cayman Islands) the 9-1-1 center maintains a list of wreckers. We have asked each company to commit to 24/7 service to be placed on the list, though I am not aware of any formal law or regulation. If the driver does not have a preferred wrecker we rotate with each call.

I have to imagine that we would remove a wrecker from the list if they arrived on scene and then left a motorist on the side of the road.

According to the article I saw (don’t know if it was one of the ones OP linked), the tow driver said he had a long sad history of not getting paid when he towed socialists, which he followed up by spouting a bunch of strange pseudo-Christian blather.

If the story is legit, and I have my doubts, then the man will face consequences. Not legal consequences, but financial ones. I have a feeling he is not gonna get much work in the future.

If you were AAA, or owned a repair shop, would you wanna contract with this guy? Leave your customers stranded on the side of the road?

I believe he will taste the wrath of the Free Market!

A tow truck driver at an Interstate access once told me that he asked the state police for permission to cross over the neutral ground to reach a tow job. They told him no, he has to go all the way to the next exit and back again. So now when the state police call him to send out a tow, he says “I’m too busy” and hangs up.

Tow truck drivers are in business to earn a living, and have a right to turn down any job for any reason, just like a plumber.

That doesn’t make sense to me. How is refusing to serve anyone who isn’t a Christian because I am one any different from refusing to serve anyone who is a Christian because I’m not? The justification for discriminatory practices is still religion, so it’s religious discrimination.

Not sure what sect of Christianity requires people to run a business and refuse service to Democrats, but I’m not a Christian so I miss the meetings.

They have a right to turn down a job because the prospective client is black? I’d be very surprised to learn this is the case.

Bloody socialists, never paying their tow truck drivers.
My neighborhood has a major problem with monarchists not following pooper-scooper laws.

He refused service because she was a Sanders supporter, not because she wasn’t a Christian. He never asked about her religion. Why he chose to refuse service to a Sanders supporter isn’t really important - that’s not a protected class. It’s loathsome behavior, but not illegal as far as I know.

Or handicapped.

Typo Negative, you make a very good point. I like to think I doubt every outrageous web story, but I swallowed this one, hook, line and sinker.

The Fox station has a video including an interview with the tow operator.

Thanks, running coach.
It is difficult to believe that someone can be that mean.

It’s an alternate reality where Ted Cruz never went to college.

My point was that he used his religion as an excuse, not hers. Is that not religious discrimination too?

:dubious:

No, it isn’t. He’s not discriminating against a protected class. It’s perfectly legal to discriminate against people for their political beliefs; the reason is irrelevant.
