Those laughing about these “crackpots” might sober up if they realized that 21 May 2011 was indeed Doomsday for a significant portion of the gazillions of alternate universes. It’s just that your consciousness vanished in a puff in those parallel universes; the fact that “you” are still posting at SDMB just means that [a version of “you” has survived](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_immortality) in one of the few worlds that didn’t evaporate. Apologies, however, to those of you who gave away all your worldly possessions in anticipation of Armageddon. I don’t think physicists have a way for you to travel backwards into an alternate universe and replenish your IRA account. Just try to console yourself that a version of yourself is now in a fantastical Paradise feasting on raisins or virgins or whatever… hth ---

Um, not that I believe anything will happen at this time, but I’ve read, many places, that it’s supposed to happen at about 6pm CENTRAL TIME (on the 21st). By my clock, that’s not for another 17 hours or so. ---
