So they may not all be 100% accurate, but I’d generally assume that someone did, in fact, tell the reporters these stories and someone else did, in fact, corroborate them. If the stories are false, blame the leakers - and think about their motives. Jayson Blair was not working the WH beat. You really think the relevant editors at the NYT are accepting made-up fantasies from their WH reporters? ---

This strikes me as a very odd quibble. We’re not talking about an official interview set up for some other purpose here, we’re talking about journalists reaching out for word on what is actually going in in the WH and/or insiders reaching out to journalists to vent their frustration. ---

I agree, it’s a very strange fact to dispute. Interviews can be by phone, email and over beers after work. Several news reports have noted how much this administration leaks. Not only that, there seems to be significant push back from career civil servants, including in the intelligence community who are leaking information. Their motives probably range from petty jealousies to people sincerely concerned about the fate of the nation. ---
