Did you know that the "USA Patriot" Act is an acronym?

Nope, didn’t know it was an acronym until six weeks ago, when I started my new job with a large insurance company and had to sit through a web-based training module on it. However, reading KRM’s OP had me saying “Yes I did!” But only recently.

Doesn’t that mean that technically it’s not the “USA Patriot Act” or even the “USA PATRIOT Act” but in fact the “USAPATRIOT act”?

How stupid does that look?

Yes, and I knew what it stood for. I work in a bank, so it’s one of those things we toss out at rookies.

I knew it was an acronym, though I didn’t know the precise title. I also know that members of the House of Representatives were required to vote on the thing without first getting a chance to read it, which explains why (from Dubya’s persepctive) the only thing that mattered about the act was giving it a good name.

Yep. I didn’t know that it was an acronym (nor did my husband) until about six months ago.

I became enlightened to this fact while learning about the Bank Secrecy Act as well.

Huh. I had no idea that it was an acronym at all. I thought they just picked the title of the Act in order to make it sound completely harmless, and, in fact, like a Good Thing (You don’t like the PATRIOT act? How can you call yourself an "American!?)

Now that I know it’s based on an acronym, rather than just a ham-handed attempt at patriotic manipulation, I feel much better about it.
