Did you like Green Acres?

I was never a big fan, and I did like the Beverly Hillbillies, at least. I don’t think Petticoat Junction was on Nick at Nite. I liked a lot of old shows, actually. But Green Acres never really appealed to me. I’m honestly unsure why. I was a kid/teen at the time, mind you.

Definitely thought the wife was a lot older than she was, BTW. I had no idea she was supposed to be a lot younger. I thought she was probably a little bit older than the husband.

I suspect it’s the same way young adults from 1960s photographs look older to me today. The way she dressed and held herself seemed older.

Green Acres is one of the finest comedies to air on American television. No, I’m not a boomer. But that show was hilarious.

Count me in the ‘I love Green Acres!’ crowd, and I’m not a boomer either. Grew up with GA on Nick At Nite in the 80s and TV Land in the 90s, and went on to get the first two seasons on DVD (need to get season 3 and wish they’d release season 4). ‘Rural Twilight Zone’ is a brilliant and humorously accurate description of this forever great show. It’s hard for me to pick an absolute favorite character, but I’d probably have to go with Hank Kimball. Fun fact about Alvy Moore playing Hank: The outfit he almost always wore as the character was based on his get-up in War Of The Worlds in 1953. Favorite episode is tricky as well, but if really pressed, it might just have to be the one about the ‘Name That Tune’-esque radio contest where all the songs literally sounded the same. I couldn’t imagine that episode, as well as the series, if someone else instead of Vic ‘The Addams Family’ Mizzy had done the music.

Oh, and I’m still waiting for the Blu-Ray release of Frankenstein Meets Mary Poppins.

I loved it. I think I loved everything on TV as a kid in the 60s. My sisters and I loved to sing the theme songs. I could give you the Green Acres theme word for word w/o looking it up but I will spare you. We grew up in a city but had many rural family members.

You can sing it to the tune of Purple Haze.

I still love that show. My friend noticed that Oliver gets pissed off within 1 minute of the beginning of every show (or so it seems). Also that whenever Lisa mispronounces a word, magically everyone in town (except Oliver) pronounces it that way too (to Oliver’s dismay). Throw in Haney and Kimball and it’s just sublime insanity.

Oh my God! I never noticed until now but he got that from Oliver Hardy didn’t he? Ollie would turn and look at the camera when Stan exasperated him exactly the same way Skipper would when Gilligan did.

Of the CBS country comedies this was the best. While Lisa and Oliver were not much, the secondary characters made it. It had Pat freakin’ Buttram for goodness sake!

You have to “get” the surrealism of it all. Arnold the Pig and all that. It’s an extended Twilight Zone episode. Submitted for your approval …

You can also sing the Green Acres theme to the tune of “A Day In The Life”, albeit with an edit or two to the middle and closing sections.

Makes it more funny!

Still a funny show, after all the years. Still watching, have antenna tv no more expensive dish or cable!

Beverly Hillbillies not so funny after all these years

Gilligan’s Island…not needing to watch that again but, passable if nothing else is on.

F-Troop-ick
That Girl-Still love!
The Munsters, take it or leave it
McHale’s Navy-Tolerable but nothing funny about it

Family Affair-I get up early on Sundays to watch it at 6am

Mr Ed-still funny
My Favorite Martian-Its ok

Somehow Hogan’s Heroes I still find entertaining and

Get Smart-too freaking dumb now-nice music though
The Addams Family-tolerable

Dick Van Dyke Show -great show, almost 100%, I have a few favorites I could watch over and over-its a sign of quality like Frasier is

Bewitched-I like the ones with the second Darrin
Andy Griffith Show-some episodes not so much
I Dream of Jeannie-mostly good

I’ve always like Gomer Pyle-most of them now, not so much
Petticoat Junction & The Beaver-not really enjoyable

Hazel-always loved this show, still do
My 3 Sons-good show mostly
Father Knows Best-most shows good

Oh really?

I saw this one called “I married Joan” like 15-20 years ago, that was pretty good

Now I watch
Our Miss Brooks, never seen it before but I like it
The Ghost & Mrs Muir was on for a while, they took that off and the Nanny and the Professor-replaced the shows with some unheard of show! I loved N and the P when I was young, not now. Its ok though

I watch Donna Reed, good show

I, too, enjoyed the absurdity of the show.

Turek and TheInevitabkeMaven, I love the theme song takeoffs!

I forgot Ghost & Mrs Muir, liked it as a kid, can tolerate it still.
I like Nanny & the Professor but it was a 70s show, so I skipped it on my list.
I never saw Our Miss Brooks, but that was a 50s show.
I think of Donna Reed Show as 50s but I see it spent more time in the 60s. I don’t really recall it at all. The little I’ve seen of it more recently seems like crappy 50s fare like Father Knows Best.

Yep. And for the same reasons. Everyone other than Oliver (who was clueless) was stupid. or insane. Or both.

Well, other than Sam Drucker, who was a carry over from Petticoat Junction, and so doesnt count.

On Petticoat Junction, Kate was quite smart.

Beverly Hillbillies not so funny after all these years, yes

Gilligan’s Island…not needing to watch that again but, passable if nothing else is on.
F-Troop-Has moments. Wrangler Jane!
That Girl-meh
The Munsters- fantastic theme song, show is meh.
McHale’s Navy- Have not rewatched it.
Family Affair-never cared for it

Mr Ed-Meh
My Favorite Martian-Has moments

Hogan’s Heroes= still find entertaining

Get Smart-too freaking dumb now-nice music though- yep.
The Addams Family-best show of the period.

Dick Van Dyke Show -great show, almost 100%,

Bewitched- Have not rewatched it
Andy Griffith Show- varies wildly.
I Dream of Jeannie-Have not rewatched it

Gomer Pyle-never funny to me- or my Dad the Sgt.
Petticoat Junction: great theme song, dated now

I was a kid in 4-H in a rural community when Green Acres was on, and we thought it was hilarious. It seemed like a great send-up of our local county agent and crazy neighbor and useless handyman, so it was almost true.

Once a year each 4-H club presented a skit in an evening “Share the Fun” activity. Two of the funniest ones I remember were a send-up of Green Acres and the other an almost exact copy of Hee Haw. We weren’t insulted - instead we found it an honor to be mocked. It was a sad day when CBS canned all of its rural comedies.

Couldn’t have put it better myself, won’t even try.
