Thinking back to my teen years, I don’t recall feeling compelled to rebel against my parents simply for the sake of rebellion. I broke some rules here and there because the activities themselves were fun (some crazy driving, a couple of drunk episodes, skipping homework, etc.), but I don’t ever recall doing something overtly rebellious (earrings, odd hair cuts, etc.) and thinking “this will show those overcontrolling assholes who’s in charge.”
