On topic, my parents were agnostic on Santa Ana, but I’ve since found it to be very real. It’s home to some great Vietnamese restaurants, and the nominal origin of Santa Anas: hot, dry winds, which according to The Bobs song, make the whole city of Los Angeles act like it’s got PMS. No Santeria for me as a child unfortunately. I didn’t know about Santeria until Sublime sang about when I was already grown. I grew up in Louisiana though. My parents did tell me about closely related Voodoo although we never practiced it ourselves except for the time I stuck some pins in a doll that was supposed to represent my little brother.
