Didn't Judi Dench already do this movie 20 years ago?

FWIW, my Anglophile, history-loving older sister just saw it and loved it.

[Blackadder has just unwittingly slammed the door in the faces of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert]

Ebeneezer Blackadder: I am not at home to guests!

Prince Albert: I flatter myzelf ve are llather special guests, sir.

Ebeneezer Blackadder: Oh, of course, I must apologize! It isn’t often that one receives a Christmas visit from two such distinguished guests.

Prince Albert: Ah, zo you llecognize us at last!

Ebeneezer Blackadder: Yes! Unless I’m very much mistaken, you’re the winner of the 'Round Britain Shortest Fattest Dumpiest Woman Competition. And for her to be accompanied by the winner of this year’s Stupidest Accent Award is really quite overwhelming.

Ebenezer Blackadder: Cork it, fatso! Don’t you realise that this is the Victorian Age, where apart from Queen Piglet-Features herself, women and children are to be seen and not heard!

Prince Albert: Queen Piglet-Features!

Ebenezer Blackadder: Yes! “Empress Oink,” us lads call her. The only person in the kingdom who looks dafter than her is that stupid Frankfurter of a husband. “The Pig and the Prig,” we call them. How they ever managed to produce their one hundred and twelve children is quite beyond me. The bed-chambers of Buckingham Palace must be copiously supplied with blindfolds!

Short, fat and dumpy is quite appropo, isn’t it?

And that ridiculous little tiny crown he had made up to wear, and everything is all “we” and “our”.

And she really pretty much screwed up all of those “112 children”. And don’t get me started on her policies towards Ireland and all that “sun shall never set on the British Empire” stuff.

Like I said upthread, so much to love, so much to hate when it comes to Vicki.

And like the sister Elendil’s Heir, I consider myself also a history-loving Anglophile who can dive face first into a costume drama and swim in it, but my feelings on Victoria of late are the more I know the less I like. I see her less and less as a sympathetic character. And that’s even with looking at her in the context of her times.

In HRH’s defense, she started out cute. And was still cute into her dotage, given her age and when she allowed her royal self to smile.

Is Judi Dench really a top tier actress anyway? I’ve seen a handful of her movies and I guess she was “good”, but the performances were all so similar that it was like watching the same character over and over. (Dolph Lundgren style) Am I missing something?
