[Die2Nite](http://www.die2nite.com/) is a browser game where players take the role of a town trying to survive a zombie-infested apocalyptic wasteland. The townspeople spend each day frantically gathering resources and building defenses in an attempt to fend off the zombie attacks that come at night. Anyway, I’m in the midst of my first game and it occurred to me that there were likely some dopers out there already playing or interesting in trying the game out who would be willing to form a town. I know that this has resulted in great success in Travian and the like before. My current town will almost certainly be destroyed tonight since someone opened the gate and let the zombies in yesterday. One thing that should be mentioned that while like all browser games of this type Die2Nite requires fairly active participation, the amount of time you have to put into it is minimal and the commitment is short term: the longest a town has survived during the current “season” is a mere 15 days. I go by the name “Cckerberos” in the game. ---

This looks pretty interesting. I’m looking over the details now. I’ll probably register this afternoon. Hopefully not as labor intensive as travian. My wife has forbidden me from ever playing travian again. If we get a group going I’m in. ---

Fortunately it’s nowhere near as intensive as Travian (which seemed like such a nice little game at the beginning…). As predicted in the OP my first town died on Day 3. My current town looks likely to do better but had a bit of a rough start. ---

Yeah. I died on day 2 on my first town. Things are looking a little better this time around. We’ll see how it goes. So far I’m loving the game. I especially like their strict no sitters policy. ---

I started playing it. It’s day 3, I’m wounded and infected, with no bandages or Parawhatever to be found. Oh well. I like the game, especially the way it’s not as intense as Travian. ---

Well I made it to day four. The trick is to get organized as early as possible. Lots of useful offsite tools for this game. I especially like the map viewer if you can get a few people using it. Have you guys considered starting a dope coalition? ---

My current town is on Day 4… looks like it will make it to Day 5 but I can’t see us surviving any longer than that. We still don’t have a workshop. Early organization and active participation seems to be the key to success (along with some luck). My last town had 13 (!) members who literally never did anything. They died of dehydration in their beds on Day 3. ---

Well my town descended into chaos today. Almost everyone has fled. I am trapped and terrorized with 3 others. We are the last ones in town. No way we will make it to day 7. ---

**cordylus** , how long did your last town last? You seem to have just gained a lot of points. My current town is the only one I’ve been in so far where we’ve managed to build both the watchtower and the workshop in the first day. We’re unlikely to do well despite that, however… we lost 12 people who went offline while outside. ---

We ended up making it to day 9. We stretched out the last 4 days starting with 7 residents and ending with 4. We were all pretty amazed. It was a lot easier to coordinate with a smaller group of active players. Unfortunately most of us were terrorized and unable to scavenge so the clock finally ran down. I’d say its better just exiling the inactive and uncooperative players as early as possible. We could have made it a lot longer if some jerk hadn’t used up all the nuts and bolts on day 4. Apparently after you reach 100 points you can join towns with other veteran players. As annoying as it can be I think its a great idea. I’m looking forward to hitting 100 so I can really explore the strategy and coordination required to be successful, I really like how the game makes your fellow humans a much greater threat to your long term survival than the zombies. ---

Well, I registered. Looks interesting, but now the site is unavailable or something. I was in the middle of the tutorial when everything blinked out. Am I able to join anyone else’s town, or do we have to join at the same time? ---

You have to join at the same time, although once you have over 100 soul points, I think you can join any town you want. Addicted yet? ; ) ---

It’s fun, but with most games like this I really wish there was a single player version. When in the mood, I want to be able to sit down and play for several hours straight. 5 minutes per day isn’t cutting it. Thus far I pretty much dump all my points into construction projects, drink water, then dump those points into construction. I assume other players know what they are doing with wandering around outside, so the best contribution/point is to get the defenses up. Is that correct? ---

I was confused/intimidated by going outside at first too, but it’s very easy and actually kind of fun. I go outside all the time now. You can find a lot of really useful stuff for town out there. You just search one area and autosearch will keep finding things in that area for you, so you can go away and come back to the game and have about 4 items piled up. ---

But yeah, either or…some people only do construction and workshop things. Some people only go outside and look for useful things…some do both.
