# Ding Dong, the Judge is Dead (Roy Moore)

OK, not dead, just [removed from office](http://www.salon.com/news/wire/2003/11/13/ten/index.html) for defying a federal court order. I’ll leave aside my glee, holding it in reserve for MPSIMS or the Pit, to ask a question. What happens next? How does Alabama go about replacing judges removed from office? Is Moore eligible to be appointed or elected back to his recently-lost position or (assuming another court member is elevated to the chief justice spot) to fill a vacancy?

Moore is eligible to run and be elected again for the same office or (as is likely) an even higher one.

He may be disbarred for his flagrant ethics violations, in which case he will not be eligible to run or be appointed for any state judicial position. He could still run for another office, though.

I hope he’s gone from the judicial system forever, it is no place to have contentious religious debates, especially when he acts outside the law he is supposed to be upholding.

You kidding? His PR is working perfectly. He is getting even more free media now. This will help his run for governor or whatever higher office he announces next week. You can tell it is all intentional because he announced today that he will have another announcement next week. I think he’s trying to play the “underestimate me” card.
I’m not gonna say this is good or bad in my personal opinion, just that “whether he is judge” is not a relevant measure of his status.
