Yep, life’s not fair. Every now and then I see some person who has lived a long healthy life being featured in the newspaper. And as often as not, they will attribute their long life to 80 or 90 years of smoking, drinking, and hell-raising.

**redtail23** , a fried slice is a slice of bread, fried in fat. Usually the fat is butter/margarine, but it could be just about any kind of fat. Bacon grease, sausage grease (but it’s better to make country gravy and serve it over toast), beef fat (tallow), whatever. A fried slice tastes and feels different than a piece of buttered toast.

The burger I accidentally ordered last night at Zombie Burger. I picked the wrong name, thinking I was ordering somehting marginally healthy (the T-Virus, with swiss cheese, portabella mushroom and some other stuff) and ordered instead the Coming to Get You Barbara, which had two grilled cheese sandwiches as the bun, more cheese on the burger, a lot of bacon, and I lost track of it after that.

Thank god for the beer or I might never have been able to finish the whole thing. I am eating salads and yogurt for the next several days in a probably vain attempt to not have a heart attack.

Yeah, my grandmother smoked Camels (no filter) her whole life and lived well into her 80s. She only stopped smoking because she began to suffer from dementia and eventually forgot she smoked.

Probably Beef Wellington. A dish that calls for a thick layer of semi hard butter to be rubbed all over an enormous ball of beef before other deadly items are applied / slathered/ wrapped. Served with bearnaise sauce. Delicious. Lethal.

After that? Cheeseburgers topped with a fried egg and crispy bacon. Logical side dish? Waffle sweet potato fries with chipotle mayo dipping sauce. Logical drink? Coke Zero. 😃

ETA: Frying eggs in the bacon grease is a particular level of sin. Mmmmmmmmm.

I was just going to say that. We made a breakfast version that was yummy. Instead of italian sausage and bbq sauce, we used a breakfast sausage and maple syrup as the filling.

My other favorite - candied bacon. Take a nice apple smoked bacon, coat it in turbinado sugar, put it on a rack in a baking pan, and bake in the oven. Once it cools, you have candy coated bacon. Also works well with maple sugar. Oh so yummy and no real nutritional value.

OOOOH, that. Yes, good stuff. Just never heard it called that before. Thanks.

I’m not sure which would be more unhealthy:

Chicken fried steak with milk gravy, mashed potatoes and creamed English peas

Lasagne, made with sausage and plenty of cheese with garlic bread

or

Biscuits and sausage gravy with fried eggs

Fortunately, we have meals that are more healthy than that most of the time. 🙂

I simply love the fact that you wrote it in the right order:

" plenty of cheese with garlic bread "

And not :

" Garlic bread with a mere pittance of cheese dashed across it. "

😃

I meant the lasagne. :smack: But oftentimes, the garlic bread has cheese too. (Or cheese with garlic bread, if it pleases you more :D)

I shouldn’t spread the awfulness. I practically make it in the dark myself. Besides, I originally had a recipe, but not really any more.

Caramelize a bunch of onions (I add garlic sometimes), mix with cream cheese (0.5-1 pack for 4-6 breasts) and whatever herbs I have around, spinach if I’m feeling healthy (and I’ve done an apple-walnut variant), stuff into butterflied chicken breasts, wrap in bacon, and bake at 350 in a pan with a rack (too much juice otherwise- I dunno, 30-40 mins?), then broil at the end to crisp the bacon up extra. We eat it with a ton of vegetables to assuage the guilt.

Consider that stolen and I’m already thinking of tweaks. AWESOME! Plus I love bacon wrapping chicken breasts!

I make what I call “the mother of all omelettes”.

Four eggs, with steak, bacon, chorizo, onions, peppers, fried potatoes, cheddar, bleu cheese, hot sauce, and sour cream.

The hardest part is getting the omelette folded over all of that. I think I need a bigger frying pan.

Everybody needs a bigger frying pan.

Worst I habitually cooked for my family would have been pizza, using store-bought crusts. I’d put sliced pepperoni, ham, sausage, tomatoes, bell peppers, and olives on them, with a generous sprinkling of shredded mozzarella & cheddar between each layer, then more cheese on top. Pre-cooked, they were about 3" tall.

Sadly, it’s actually pretty healthy compared to most of the things I’ve seen in this thread…

You could name it the Lady GaGa. Look at the career SHE’S made out of tweaking people by wrapping her breasts in bacon !!
