I saw this phrase as a bumper sticker on a pickup truck in the local supermarket parking lot. What’s the origin of this phrase? All Google links seem to be for bumper stickers and t-shirts, but no explanations. ---

Not entirely sure what you’re looking for here, but I’ll take a stab at it. I assume the implication is that lesbians enjoy licking things, honey is enjoyable to lick, the owner of the sticker wishes to be licked by females. Simple as that. Or am I missing something? ---

Yeah, I was afraid I didn’t have it right. But the answer to that (IMHO) is probably no - it’s just one of those slogans some “clever” person thought up specifically for t-shirts/bumper stickers. Again, I could be wrong. ---

My guess it’s them country folk and good ol’ boys being clever and friendly like. You know, admitting there are lesbians is the first step in accepting them homos. I like to think of lesbians as the embassadors of the queers. ---

Unless this phrase predates late 1999 or early 2000, this is a line from Garth Ennis’ PREACHER. Tulip says this in disbelief (or something very similar) after Jesse Custer uncharacteristically resolves a gun threat nonviolently. ---

I learned it from a woman with whom I haven’t spoken since 1993. We hadn’t been in regular contact for a year or so before that. So, I’d say it’s from 1992 or earlier. ---

Am I to assume the owner of the sticker is a lesbian herself? If you’re a heterosexual male, it would make more sense to want to be licked by heterosexual females. ---

But that’s not what the phrase is used as. It’s an exclaimation of astonishment, not a wish for fulfillment. “Well, I will be a monkey’s uncle” doesn’t mean the speaker is about to marry a chimp’s aunt. The phrase just sounds better with “lesbians” as the object. But otherwise, what **Bosda** said. 😃 ---

Fifteen or twenty years ago, there was a flurry of silly (do something to me) and (call me something) phrases. “Well, paint me red and call me Sally,” for example. It was usually an expression of surprise, like “Well, I’ll be a monkey’s uncle.” ---

Interestingly, this just came up ay my office. One of our sales reps (who is straight) put this bumpersticker on her car. You know, the car she uses to visit our clients and pitch them. I’m aware she has the right to do so, after all, the car is her personal property, not a company car. I just think it’s a remarkably stupid thing to do, given that our industry is overwhelmingly conservative and would look askance at this. ---
