10:12 am Mountain Standard Time. The system went down. Third day in a row that it went down right after 10am.
If its noise cause by the equinoxe, it lasts all day. I suspect it will come back up again around 6 pm. Just like before.
I don’t know anyone in my area that would be home, or anyone at all that has the internet as well as the DTV on the same dish. So swapping out dish LNB componants is pretty much a no go.
I’ll try the new receiver and see if that’s the problem. But I won’t be getting it till tommorow or the next day.
I really doubt it is the problem though, since it works fine if the sun is down.
Anyway, as I mentioned, I doubt it is the receiver. And the dish/LNB works fine when the sun is down. I do think it has something to do with the equinoxe and oddly, the elevation I live at. 11,200 feet.
DTV would be getting hundreds of thousands of complaints about having a system down during daylight hours. So it must be my location, and the only real oustanding thing different about it is the elevation I live at.
Frustrating ain’t it? Try running some cold water over your LNB and see if that doesn’t fix your problem temporarily. Just set a sprinkler to run on your dish.
I tell ya, I considered everything when I had my problem, including wondering if the mountain in front of me grew during the heat of the day. (I barely get the satellite over the top of the mountain).
I just came back to the thread to say that the TV just came back up. 4:30pm local time. Lots of big ass clouds in the west over the sun right now. Large cloud system where the dish is pointing as well.
It might be heat. But I must say, that when it goes down in the morning, the dish is maybe at 40d F. It’s a white dish too, so that helps with heat. It’s maybe 60d F outside now.
bear, I just might have to try the hose to see if cooling the LNB fixes things. Winter is on its way, so if heat is a problem, it will fix it self. For about 6 months or so.
Kind of a bummer though. And as you said, very frustrating. I’m a programmer and understand how tough intermittent problems are.
It only goes down during the day. No one else seems to be having any problems. So, its either radio waves from the sun, or heat, or both and or my unique location and altitude at this point.
Not going to be able to test the heat theory till next weekend. So, if it goes down, I’ll hit it with the hose. Love low tech solutions to high tech problems.
If that fixes it, then I suspect it is my LNB. I can’t wait for that call to tech support.
“It works fine if I spray it with the garden hose”.
That’s gonna be a looonnnggg phone call.
Ps…. Not to forget. They are sending me a new receiver. I should have it tomorrow. Though I doubt it is the problem.
Didn’t get the new receiver until Thursday, and the system has been working when I’ve been home. Only seems to go out during bright sunny days, and it’s been more overcast lately. Had some snow on friday.
Clear skies now though, but the sun is not up yet and the system is down. I’ll switch it out in a little bit and see what happens.
Well shoot. System is back up. I’d like to replace the receiver while the system is down. I have to call DTV to activate it when I do, and maybe, if it’s not the receiver, that will help trouble shoot it.
I’m betting that it will go down again in about 2 1/2 hours, when the sun hits the dish.
