I was making a joke about a joke about a reference to misheard Hendrix lyrics.
Got it.
Not quite. Originally, the song before “Young Lust” was supposed to be “What Shall We Do Now”, which was supposed to be reprised as “Empty Spaces” just before “Another Brick in the Wall, Part 3”. For some reason (the oft cited reason is time, but there’s plenty of time on side 2 for both songs, so it’s probably the better transition into Young Lust) What Shall We Do Know was cut and Empty Spaces moved into its place. The lyric sheet had apparently already gone to the printers.
The movie only used What Shall We Do Now. But they’re two separate sons.
There is a fun site dedicated to misheard lyrics with the wonderfully appropriate name www.kissthisguy.com
It really really bugs me that they don’t say “Silent Lucidity” one more time at the end of “Silent Lucidity”.
Journey has a great example of disappointment with their end to Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’. Great lyrics full of the pain of betrayal and the promise of payback. And then? Na, na, na, na, na for a couple of minutes, and that’s it.
It’s almost like they decided that writing lyrics was too hard, and just gave up on it.
They decided there’s no way to write an ending that won’t piss off 50% of the audience. Better to Na, na, na, na, na and let everyone mentally write their own ending of vindication, re-uniting, or revenge as they prefer.
With Hey Jude, the Beatles kicked off a brief craze of long repetitive codas: Simon & Garfunkel The Boxer, Donovan Atlantis, Chicago Feelin’ Stronger Every Day…
My favorite Savage Garden song is Santa Monica. It wasn’t released as a single (except for Japan). The song talks about talking on the phone, so they put in phone sound effects in the middle and at the very end. So, it’s a pretty song with an annoying (to me - and also my wife) noise at the end.
“Let it Rain” kinda fizzles out.
