Xenforo is a newer forum platform that has the same basic style as Vbulletin (separate threads, no infinite scrolling, etc), but isn’t free.
The Pit is the place where hijacks and junior modding are allowed. I thought it a great place to put a spin off from a thread talking about free discussions.

Yeah, I was going to mention that. It has threads as a non-default option; most of the chat is in ‘channels’ (which are basically chat rooms), but it is convention on some discord servers that if a very specific conversation starts to dominate a more general-purpose channel, the interested participants ‘get a room’ in the form of a thread.
