discovered named “oil” painting

Just out of curiousity, could you take a few snaps put them on imgur and post them here? There is really nothing we can do but chit chat about it without seeing it.

While Googling to find out more on Reliable I came across www.justanswer.com which connects you to online appraisers. You aren’t the first person to ask about whether Reliable paintings are legit or worth anything:

Reliable seems to have been an art factory - commissioning competent artists who could churn out a majestic elk or other genre pieces by the metre. Some became established artists, but these may not be their A list work. They probably experimented with reproduction technologies as these became available.

That wouldn’t help. Prints on canvas are a thing.

But were they 50 years ago?

I agree with this. If we have a photo of it we might be able to track down where the original is supposed to be.

1970? Why that was horse and buggy time!

Likely not mechanical reproduction, but instead a knock-off by a semi-talented painter doing factory like production.

Wikipedia says

It would be nice if it were a little more specific than “many decades”, but offset printing has been around since the late 1800s. I wouldn’t be surprised if canvas prints existed in the early 20th century.

I’ve seen decorative panels by Mucha printed on silk. Of course that is a finer fabric. (Is “finer” the word I want? More tightly woven?)

Since this is about art, let’s move it to Cafe Society.
