He manages to invoke Woody Guthrie, Johnny Cash, and Bruce Springsteen without sounding cheesy or contrived. I think I may have heard that years ago. I liked the opening guitar riff a lot, but the singing was a disappointment. On the other hand, the bagpipes were an inspired touch. Overall, not a bad song. OK, I can fully dig where these guys are coming from. But the chord progressions are rather pedestrian, and the lead vocalist’s voice is too thin and a bit off-key.
