Yes, the IDF released documents seized from Hamas showing he was an active fighter for them. He was even injured in combat in 2017, as Hamas’ own records show.

(Oh, I was talking about al Sharif, but the other 5 also had documentation showing they were Hamas fighters).

And that’s why these conversations are never productive. Sure, the private media network of the Sheik of Qatar (the same country that’s harboring the leaders of Hamas, by the way) is completely trustworthy - if they say “this guy was not a terrorist” they are clearly truthful. Meanwhile, even if Israel produces Hamas’ own documents showing that these people were Hamas fighters, Israel is clearly lying.

Guys, did you know the leaders of Hamas aren’t even in Gaza right now? That must be why it’s so imperative to obliterate Gaza, starve their civilian population, and concentrate them into smaller and smaller areas, with harder and harder treks to get food!

That will show those Hamas leaders who live elsewhere! This sure explains why it’s so imperative to obliterate Gaza and destroy the lives of hundreds of thousands of civilians right now!

That would be a great idea if Hamas was, for example, an army of undead led by a necromancer, which would crumble to dust the second the leader died.

Since Hamas is _not_ like that, I’m not sure what killing a few old billionaires in Qatar is meant to accomplish, other than revenge for Oct 7 (and if they “fall” out a window or have a “heart attack” in the next couple of years, I certainly won’t mind). But how would killing those people, as opposed to the fighters and tactical on the ground leaders, help win the war any sooner?

And not only that, but the ones they don’t kill are that much more likely to join Hamas, or its successor, when they grow up; meaning Netanyahu and his allies get years and decades more of exciting, delicious, glorious bloodshed!

> [@DrDeth](#):
>
> The people of Gaza could get tired of the attacks, harassment, mis-government, aid-
> theft, etc, and throw off Hamas.

…the people of Gaza are tired because the IDF are starving them. Because they are living in tents. Because they’ve been forced to “evacuate” multiple times, and risk being bombed even in the “safe zones.”

Israels strategy isn’t going to result in the “people rising up against Hamas.” Because Israel is _funding rival gangs_. The goal is to invite chaos.

And you are ignoring something fundamental here: Hamas _has agreed to step down_.

The people of Gaza don’t have to “throw off Hamas.” Its already over. It was over the moment Hamas terrorists committed atrocities on October the 7th.

Israel will not only push Hamas out of power, but they would also get the remaining hostages back. All they have to do is _agree to end the war_.

> [@DrDeth](#):
>
> The money comes from the people who support it.

The money comes from the people that support the ethnic cleansing in Gaza? Apparently it does. Perhaps stop taking the money then?

> [@DrDeth](#):
>
> Except the People in Palestine- at least some of them. And a few other nations have terrorist issues.

We were literally talking about Jewish people who do not support ethnic cleansing in Gaza. This is a non-sequitur.

> [@DrDeth](#):
>
> _Encourage_ Netanyahu rather than discourage as Biden did.

Biden didn’t discourage Netanyahu.

And Trump has criticised Netanyahu. He’s contracted him and said there is “real starvation” in Gaza and promised to fund food centres. He’s been every bit as “critical” as Biden has, and just like Biden, continues to fund and provide material support and cover for the “war.”

There is no real difference between the two.

> [@DrDeth](#):
>
> _The Biden administration has warned Israel that it must increase the amount of humanitarian aid it is allowing into Gaza within the next 30 days or it could risk losing access to U.S. weapons funding._

You know what the outcome of this was, right?

Do you remember what happened 30 days later?

Israel had _escalated_. Things got _worse_.

Here is the summary for October 15th:

> [@Flash Update October 15th](#):
>
> ### Key Highlights
>
> - The Israeli military has intensified, with few exceptions, a siege on northern Gaza, while areas in central Gaza have seen at least two mass casualty incidents on Sunday and Monday.
> - The only three hospitals in North Gaza are operating at minimum capacity and no primary health-care centres remain operational, reports the Health Cluster.
> - No food aid entered northern Gaza for 12 days, people have run out of ways to cope, food systems have collapsed, and the risk of famine is real, the World Food Programme warns.
> - Preparations by the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Cluster for the rainy season have been limited due to fuel shortages, access impediments, lack of supplies and resources, and widespread damage.

And here is the summary for November 19th:

> [@Flash Update November 19th](#):
>
> ### Key Highlights
>
> - For over 40 days, people besieged in North Gaza governorate have been facing diminishing conditions for survival.
> - All attempts by the UN to support people in North Gaza have been denied or impeded: bakeries and kitchens have shut down, nutrition support has been suspended, and the refuelling of water and sanitation facilities remains restricted.
> - Efforts are ongoing to scale up services in Gaza city, where more than 100,000 people displaced from North Gaza have relocated.
> - There is a stark increase in the number of households experiencing severe hunger in central and southern Gaza, Food Security Sector partners warn.

When challenged at the end of that 30 period, state department officials had this to say:

> [@aljazeera](#):
>
> The deadline has now passed, and the United Nations is warning that famine is “imminent” in parts of northern Gaza. But there will be no consequences for Israel, the administration of outgoing President Joe Biden said on Tuesday.
> …
> “We, at this time, have not made an assessment that the Israelis are in violation of US law,” State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel told reporters.
>
> He argued that Israel had made “some progress” to allow more aid into the besieged territory but the US “would like to see some more changes happen”.
>
> Patel would not say whether the specific conditions set out by Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin in an October 13 letter to Israeli leaders had been met.
>
> The US assertion caused fury among Palestinian rights advocates, who dismissed the entire push as another ploy to distract from Washington’s complicity in Israel’s killing and starvation of Palestinians.

> **[Despite 30-day Gaza aid ultimatum, US says support for Israel will proceed](https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/11/12/despite-thirty-day-gaza-aid-ultimatum-us-says-support-for-israel-will-proceed)**
>
> US law prohibits military assistance to allies blocking humanitarian aid, but Washington says no assessment on Israel.

The 30-day deadline was utterly meaningless. It was a fucking joke. Israel completely ignored it, in fact they _escalated_. And Biden didn’t follow through.

> [@DrDeth](#):
>
> Roosevelt made several public statements denouncing Nazi atrocities and the persecution of Jews, and he also signed a resolution in 1942 with other Allied leaders condemning the mass murder of Jews.

You _miss the point_.

It isn’t about what FDR _actually_ did.

It’s about imagining what it would have been like if FDR _had done the same as Biden_. Which means FDR would be giving unconditional support to Germany. Would be giving them billions of dollars for their concentration camps. Would be defending Germany on the world stage.

> [@DrDeth](#):
>
> Nope. He opposed it,

Biden doesn’t oppose what Israel is doing to Gaza.

> [@DrDeth](#):
>
> Oh and I believe now I have asked this like ten times in various threads- what- EXACTLY- could Biden do to end the violence in Gaza?

I mean, I’d answer this, however you then say this:

> [@DrDeth](#):
>
> Maybe, if Biden wanted his popularity to drop even more

And you don’t see the contradiction here?

You concede he could have done more, but then immediately walk it back because you think it might have been “unpopular.”

But lets start with the article you cited: where

> [@article cited](#):
>
> > [@DrDeth](#):
> >
> > The Biden administration has warned Israel that it must increase the amount of humanitarian aid it is allowing into Gaza within the next 30 days or it could risk losing access to U.S. weapons funding.

The Biden threatened consequences if Israel didn’t increase the amount of aid in 30 days. At the end of 30 days, there were no _consequences_.

What Biden and his administration could have done was ensure there were _consequences_. The threat could have actually _meant_ something.

Other things Biden could have done?

He could have condemned the killing of Hind Rajab.

He could have directed the State Department to stop vetoing resolutions at the United Nations.

He could have not approved the stupid fucking pier and instead simply insisted Israel let more aid and food trucks in.

When the Biden administration said Rafah was a “red line”, that could have _meant_ something. Turns out it wasn’t a red line at all.

Biden could have condemned Israeli war crimes. Condemned the targeted assassinations of journalists. Condemned the attacks on the Gazan healthcare system. He could have treated Isreal the same way him and his administration treated Russia or any other country that flouts the Geneva Conventions and International Humanitarian law.

That would, of course, mean not worrying whether or not this would be “vastly unpopular.” It would mean not worrying about what political donors might think. But thats immaterial here. The question was “what could he have done” and I assume that means "what could he have done if he had a _moral backbone._ "

…you’ve been challenged over and over again to provide independent verification of any IDF claims.

We did this over hospitals. Multiple hospitals have been targeted, some completely destroyed, and the BEST you can provide is a handful of weapons at Al Shifa and photos and video of near-empty tunnels.

We did this over the computer servers under the UNRWA HQ. UNWRWA claims they have asked Israel for evidence to support the claim they were “Hamas servers”, and you insisted they had provided it. And when I asked you for that evidence you cited a newspaper article that contained no actual evidence they were Hamas servers.

Because here’s the truth: almost none of Israel’s bold claims they’ve made about this conflict have been independently verified.

We reached the point long ago that if an IDF spokesman said it was raining, I’d have to go outside to check. Statements from the IDF have as much credibility as the rantings of Baghdad Bob.

Here is what the BBC has to say:

> [@BBC](#):
>
> Israel says Sharif was “the head of a Hamas terrorist cell” but has produced little evidence to support that. Sharif previously denied it, and Al Jazeera and media rights groups have rejected the allegation.
> …
> “International law is very clear on this point that the only individuals who are legitimate targets during a war are active combatants. Having worked as a media advisor for Hamas, or indeed for Hamas currently, does not make you an active combatant”, she said.
> …
> The Israeli military accused Sharif of posing as a journalist, saying he had “served as the head of a terrorist cell in Hamas” and was responsible for launching rocket attacks at Israelis - but it has produced little evidence to support these claims.
>
> In a statement, the IDF said it had documents which “unequivocally prove” his “military affiliation” with Hamas, including “personnel rosters, lists of terrorist training courses, phone directories, and salary documents”.
>
> It has publicly released some screenshots of spreadsheets apparently listing Hamas operatives from the northern Gaza Strip, noting injuries to Hamas operatives and a section of what is said to be a phone directory for the armed group’s East Jabalia battalion.

> **[Anas al-Sharif: Who was the Al Jazeera journalist killed by Israel in Gaza?](https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c6200wnez73o?xtor=AL-71-%5Bpartner%5D-%5Bbbc.news.twitter%5D-%5Bheadline%5D-%5Bnews%5D-%5Bbizdev%5D-%5Bisapi%5D&at_campaign=Social_Flow&at_link_type=web_link&at_format=link&at_link_origin=BBCWorld&at_medium=social&at_link_id=4211B0DE-76D7-11F0-9BDE-A11C82AB10E9&at_campaign_type=owned&at_ptr_name=twitter&at_bbc_team=editorial)**

The claim is that “head of a Hamas terrorist cell and advanced rocket attacks on Israeli civilians and IDF troops.” The evidence of this is…some _screenshots of spreadsheets._

The Isreali government want us to believe that these reporters we see on the screen every single fucking day are secretly doing double-duty as heads of Hamas terrorist cells launching rocket attacks, that they are snipers, Captains, intelligence officers.

Instead, I’d put it to you they are _trolling_. What they want you to believe is getting increasingly absurd. Because they know that people will believe them. And they know they are going to get away with it.
