Firstly: there is a qualitative difference between “death threats” and “ransacking offices.” Neither are acceptable.
But I was only talking about the first. So are you sure Richie Torres isn’t getting death threats, and if he is, do you know what the source is?
“Are you sure” is a perfectly valid question here.
Secondly: nobody has been caught yet. Anyone could have vandalised the office, including people wanting to make the protest movement look bad.
Thirdly: can we stop doing this, please? People are tired of having to “condemn Hamas” every time they criticise Israel. We shouldn’t be put in the position of having to condemn every single action taken by other people, even of those people agree with me.
So if some idiots are vandalising AOC’s office, or if some unhinged people are sending her death threats: thats a reflection on those idiots and those unhinged people, not on people that are critical of AOC’s position.
You cannot conflate the two. It’s a silencing tactic. I condemn Hamas. I condemn the people who vandalised the office, I condemn people sending death threats to AOC, to Richie Torres. I shouldn’t have to address that any more. It has nothing to do with anything I’ve said.
