Amazing how glib you are about roughly a hundred dead civilians every day in Gaza. If it were a hundred dead Israelis per day, would you make the same sort of jokes?
It’s still shocking to me how easily people I thought were decent can be so callous and cruel about dead children in other countries.
Not that I can find. That story remains unconfirmed. But the Guardian report doesn’t appear to be disputed. How do you feel about the Jim Crow like oppression and discrimination on the West Bank?
Israel set up a special unit to “identify Gaza-based journalists it could portray as undercover Hamas operatives, in an effort to blunt growing global outrage over Israel’s killing of reporters — the latest of whom was Al Jazeera journalist Anas Al-Sharif, killed in an Israeli airstrike this past week.”
Further:
“If the global media is talking about Israel killing innocent journalists, then immediately there’s a push to find one journalist who might not be so innocent — as if that somehow makes killing the other 20 acceptable,” the intelligence source said.
2022: 55% view Israel favorably, 42% unfavorably
2026: 37% view Israel favorably, 60% unfavorable
Generational divide hits both parties: 57% of Republicans under 50 are negative on Israel
I once viewed Israel favorably. I presume that many of those polled have somewhat similar views to mine. Does Israel have any concern about losing American support? There are likely now millions of Americans who, like me, will not support another presidential candidate in a primary who supports Israeli conduct in Gaza and the West Bank.
Good article indeed. He is clearly a smart guy and on generally the side of the angels. There are a few bits I find weird, such as his apparent belief that there is room for argument about whether Hamas deliberately targeted civilians on 10/6. And I agree with him that the essential prerequisite for peace is that all States in the region should protect the rights of all their people, especially including religious and ethnic minorities. But I’m not clear why it is totally unacceptable to him that any of those States should have a Jewish majority.
Sorry, but those those three things (smart, good, questions whether Hamas deliberately targeted civilians on 10/7*) cannot all be true at once. Since he does question this indisputable fact, he is either not good or not smart.
IDF destroys solar panels in a Lebanese village. Supposedly being investigated, but the IDF lets rapists get away with rape on film, so destroying solar panels probably won’t even register.
Besides, the classmate of a Hezbollah fighter’s nephew probably once charged his iPad from those panels.
What’s also bad (besides genocide) is that you have so many people today say “I never supported the war in Vietnam” (Or Iraq, etc).. “I would have killed Baby Hitler” or “I would never follow orders”. They want until the coast is clear and then cash in on it, while the first people to say the truth seem always to be martyred.
Deeply ironic that you accuse all Israelis of lying, and then immediately follow that up with a (presumably unintentional) untruth of your own.
17% of the dead being specific terrorists who could be identified by name is not at all the same thing as 83% of the dead being civilians, and the people publishing this supposed stat understand this perfectly well even if some of the people repeating it do not.
“Entity X lies about everything” is not logically equivalent to “Everything Entity X says is false”.
If Entity X is constantly telling self-promoting lies in order to project a falsely positive image of itself, then it’s totally reasonable to infer that something revealed by Entity X that is discreditable to itself is less likely to be a lie.
The point remains that the 83% statistic is a blatant lie (presumably not by MortSahlFan but by someone he made the mistake of trusting). 17% of the dead being identifiable by name by Israel as specific known terrorists does not mean nor imply that 83% are civilians.
This is your cite? A Tweet is barely a cite as is, just one anonymous persons opinion, but one we cant read? Come on, and previously you posted some unverified and very doubtful post from “Middle East Eye” and then, even after being called on it, you wouldnt withdraw it.
It’s not an opinion, it’s a screenshot of a translated report from Israeli TV.
Here’s the text of the post:
Israeli television news investigation confirms what we already knew, which is that the 3 hostages who were shot and executed by Israeli soldiers were killed because the overarching rules of engagement in Gaza were such that “a man, no matter the age, you kill him straight away”.
And here’s the text of the translated Israeli TV report:
The soldier who shot Yotam Chaim “I told Iris, Yotam’s mother, about the rules of engagement: man-no matter the age, you don’t play around with that- kill him straight away. They even told us - if it’s a woman or child, use your judgment, because things happen”
For the older post you’re referring to, what’s to withdraw? I cited an article, described it as “reported”, later said it was unconfirmed… What’s your point? I never claimed it was confirmed fact, just a reported incident.
