I occasionally make stuff like Jell-O shots or vodka watermelons, but a good argument could be made those are not really “boozy food” so much as they are “edible drinks.”

Maybe its because we’ve never had one, but we’re really enjoying having ice without filling trays for the first time in our lives.

I like puttering around in the kitchen. I have trays for different sizes of cubes. It sounds weird, but there are situations where I want a huge ice cube or some tiny cubes.

I almost never use ice, so the cubes are small and salty by the time i might use them. Good enough for pie crust, but not something i want to give to guests to put in their drinks.

Same here. Big round ones for scotch. But mass produced for every day ice

I was imagining you using various kinds of alcohol specifically in Chinese dishes, for some reason: maybe you thought that style of cooking went particularly well with it for some reason?

I’m very sensitive to tastes and smells. Door water and ice have a plastic/tubing taste. It’s like breathing through a snorkel, which quickly nauseates me.

If I don’t like the person’s character, my experience is that I’ll stop being attracted to them. So choosing ‘attracted but bad character’ doesn’t work; because I’d rapidly if not immediately wind up married to someone I wasn’t attracted to and who also had bad character.

If I do like the person’s character, sometimes I become attracted to them over time; sometimes not. But that choice carries at least the possibility of winding up married to someone who I am attracted to and who has good character. So I chose that one; but I’m not sure that’s what the poll meant.

I’m in any case presuming that what determines good and bad character is my own standards.

– I very rarely prepare food with enough alcohol in it to be boozy; but it has happened, and may happen again, so I chose ‘sometimes.’

The critical thing, in my experience, is to change the refrigerator’s water filter regularly. When I do that, the door water doesn’t have any unpleasant taste.

I use ice every day, even several times a day, so I love having the ice dispenser in the door. My drink of choice with most meals is a glass of ice water.

No, that’s me!
I don’t like drinks with ice in them, not because of the temperature, but because I have a mild phobia about accidentally swallowing a small ice cube and choking on it. Refrigerated drinks without ice are fine. (However I dislike hot drinks because of the temperature. No coffee, tea, or hot chocolate for me.)

Heh, I just finished the “booze in food” thread that I’d missed before. Now, I understand that poll question. And, yeah, I cook with wine all the damn time. Never once thought I shouldn’t serve it to kids (without being asked not to first).

House before child was born for my parents, but Mom had two miscarriages before my older brother was born and they were renting at the time. My dad’s dad passed away so the 'rents moved back to MN so Dad could be there for his mother.

Additional degree, I’d actually go for Art History or Fine Art just because.

Cooking with alcohol. For the most part, alcohol cooks out if you are actually cooking with it. But some alcohol leaves a lot of flavor behind. My champagne jam (with peaches and raspberries is divine). So many flavors are out there…

My fridge is the French door variety with ice and water available. I love it. I would also love to have a separate freezer again. I had to give mine up when I moved into the condo as there was no space for it. I’ve just sold the condo and am almost crying over losing the kitchen appliances that I bought for it. It’s been lovely to cook with gas again, have easy access to ice, and use an energy-efficient washer.

Maybe it’s a YMMV/culture thing, but in the Christian church I’ve noticed a substantial number of unhappy marriages that were “I married him because he was a good person, even though he wasn’t hot at all.”

I have not known as many unhappy marriages that consisted of “I knew he was a jerk but he was just so irresistible” - although I’m sure there must be many of such.

(and, of course, vice versa, gender-wise)

Yeah, people I knew who were very, for want of a better word, churchy were pressured — hard – to pair off and marry early. A lot of divorces in that group.

I’d marry someone of good character, if forced to choose between those two options. Maybe I’ll grow to love her, and vice versa. Good character suggests, to me, that there’s something admirable about her. But someone of bad character would soon undoubtedly irritate, anger or even (God forbid) scare me, and that’s not a marriage that’s gonna last.

I think what I was describing was an individual-variation thing. I’m physically turned off by people who are real jerks, even if they were attractive to me before I found out about the jerkiness.
