I might swat a gnat or a mosquito in the house, but everything else either gets ignored (they have short life spans, and I have a houseful of cats to further shorten that span) or trapped and pitched outside. I will not willingly kill anything just because it’s creepy or a nuisance. ---

Disappeared from US shelves sometime in the 90s, but was brought back to the States in 2021 by Good Humor. Has always been available in the UK since its introduction there in 1982. Took me a long time to remember what it was called. ---

The smaller package may well screw up the recipe; or in general no longer be enough to do the job, while two packages are more than needed (and the leftovers may go bad before they’ll be used.) [years old grumble] And the slightly smaller hairclip may no longer be large enough to go around the hair; although lately my hair has also diminished in thickness – but in the meantime the clips have gotten even smaller. I hope my old ones will last me out. [/end years old grumble] ---

My wife has (and loves cooking) a bunch of old recipes which she inherited from her grandmother, many of which likely came from magazines or church cookbooks from the 1950s and 1960s. Most of those recipes use convenience/pre-packaged foods, and specify types and amounts which were clearly common decades ago, but which can either be hard to find today, or at least packaged in a different size/quantity. As I’m the one who does the lion’s share of the grocery shopping, it usually falls to me to figure out how to get exactly 15 ounces of creamed corn, or some other esoteric ingredient which has long fallen out of favor with modern shoppers. ---

Thomas’s English Muffins have been shrinking for years. Now they have a King Size English muffin that comes four to a package instead of six, and it is the same size as the original English muffin they used to sell. I don’t care, I just want an English muffin that isn’t hobbit-sized. ---

Ingredients don’t need to be measured out super precisely. My solution to that problem when I need, say half a can of tomatoes, is to dump the remaining tomatoes into a Mason jar and put it in the freezer. Then I thaw them out the next time I need half a can of tomatoes. ---

And if it’s a half can of cat food, the freezer, or even the refrigerator, doesn’t work nearly so well as having the fresh can ready at room temperature. In winter I can leave it on the counter, but in the summer when the kitchen’s hotter it’s liable to mold, or at least to stink too much for either me or the cats. ---

I’ve only seen Viennettas in the UK setting. It reminds me of those frrozen chocolate cream pies that my brother used to buy when he was about 12 or 13 for a quarter, and he’d eat the whole thing. Was the brand Banquet? Can’t remember. I thought they were disgusting, and the Viennetta looks like the same fake whipped cream crap to me. ---

I’ve never heard the term “cuties” for clemtimes. And, although I’ve heard the term “Kraft dinner,” I’ve never used it or heard it IRL. Maybe it’s a regional thing. We just say “box of mac and cheese.” There are store brands, etc, but I would never call them Kraft. ---

I recommend the round plastic tubs that wet takeout food comes in. They won’t shatter of the liquid expands when it freezes, and you can dump the frozen block out into a pan to defrost it over the stove. That being said, i have no use for half a can of tomato paste. We usually either use a can or use a tablespoon.
